🌍 World Refugee Day 2026 | Until Everyone is Safe
On 20th June, World Refugee Day commemorates a commitment made 75 years ago by the international community: that people forced to flee their homes should never be returned to danger and should be able to live in dignity while displaced.
This year's theme, "Until Everyone is Safe," reminds us that safety is about more than physical protection. For refugees and asylum seekers, true safety also means feeling respected, supported, and empowered, free from judgment, discrimination, and re-traumatization. Psychological safety is a cornerstone of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), enabling not only survival, but healing, recovery, and integration (UNHCR).
At The Red Pencil, we provide creative arts group workshops for refugees and asylum seekers of all ages. Through arts-based interventions, we help participants develop a greater sense of safety, regain self-esteem, foster self-efficacy and autonomy, strengthen connections with others and build resilience.
We also train professionals who work every day to provide the best possible care to displaced people, equipping them with skills and tools to integrate arts and creativity into their practice and further strengthen the support they provide.
Over the years, we have had the privilege of supporting hundreds of displaced people across Europe. On this special day, we extend our heartfelt thanks to our donors and partner organisations who have made this work possible. Most importantly, we thank the participants who have trusted us and allowed us to accompany them on part of their journey.
To all of them, we renew our commitment to continue doing our utmost to support those forced to flee and to create spaces where healing, dignity, and hope can flourish, until everyone is safe.
