Far from loved ones, people push external borders and stretch internal boundaries seeking safe havens – willingly or warily. Meanwhile, fantasies of return and tensions between here and there linger. Traversing the perpetual crossroads of nightmares and daydreams, home becomes a space of knowing and not knowing.

Notes From Brook House
UK, 2025, 28'

Synopsis
Airports, detention centres, sea containers. Slow, roaming shots linger on places of passage and confinement, where movement is measured and controlled. Fragments of stories, words passed from one person to another. Encounters along the way reveal different ways of seeing, different ways of understanding. Voices emerge, sharing stories from those held inside Brook House, a large immigration centre on London’s outskirts. Through shifting perspectives, the film examines migration, control, and the space between perception and reality.

Director: Alex Nevill
Producer: Alex Nevill, Keith Haitkin
Director of Photography: Alex Nevill
Sound: Rob Walker

A film developed in the framework of SIC - SoundImageCulture.

🏆 💀 Play Dead! by Matthew Lancit won two awards at , Madrid, Spain!

The film won the Best Cinematography Award (Feature Film) at FICIMAD 2026, and Madeleine Lancit received the well-deserved Best Upcoming Actress Award.

Here are the kind words of the festival:
« The multifaceted artist Matthew Lancit walks on water in a stunningly beautiful, viscerally human horror film, shot in the first person with impossible perspectives and angles. Beyond his remarkable talent for camera placement, the filmmaker ‭ ‬also ‭ ‬manages ‭ ‬t‭o make what he films, even the most repulsive, disgusting, or painful scenes, seem ‬commonplace or even humorous, creating a powerful emotional dialogue; as if Jacques Tati had filmed ‭The Fly (1986, ‬with enigmatic and sardonic long shots at the climax. The en‭tire cast and crew are utterly dedicated, from the Lynchian ‬makeup to the performances of his daughters, all fully committed‭, body, soul, and insulin, to the masterful director.‬ »

Matthew Lancit grew up in Canada, where teenagers of his generation were marked by the “body horror” film genre. Taking cue from that, PLAY DEAD! is culled from his diary of his family’s quotidian, filmed over five years. He stages the ‘diabetes’ as a hidden, alien presence that haunts his apartment and the very depths of his body. Using performative and burlesque codes, form and content feed off each other as the filmmaker’s body transforms gradually into a haunted shell.

🎥Two Mountains Weighing Down My Chest
85'/2026
Viv, a Chinese wannabe artist, found herself stuck in Berlin after the pandemic and accidentally ventured into the city’s vibrant alternative culture scene. Drifting between new environments and traditional expectations, Viv is constantly adapting to shifting opinions about herself, the world and, of course, China, only to feel more lost than ever. Two Mountains Weighing Down My Chest follows Viv’s eclectic encounters and the nuanced culture clashes that shape them. Told in a deeply personal and humorous voice, the film takes a witty yet sharp look at the quest for a sense of belonging in a globalised world and how different societies define our lives. A story of the perpetual search for oneself, identity and acceptance, woven into a spiral of surreal yet tangible moments.

Biography: "Hello! This is Viv. Thanks for dropping by. Normally I would say, I'm from Beijing, now lives in Berlin. I am a filmmaker, an artist and I am making my first feature, winning ### awards. But the more I think about it, the more I find it cheesy and dull. Nobody wants to read another person's glory all the time, and that is such a one-sided presentation, just like censorship. So
here I want to tell you the real me, the failure side.
I am terrible at balance so I suck at most sports. Hence I also don't know how to dance. I made 5 short films that went nowhere, and the money I spent on festival submissions, can pay my rent for a year. I have belly fat and two very small side teeth. I spent 2 years wandering around in South America, ending up being robbed 4 times. I started writing 2 books since 2013, and I never finished them. I have literally no savings and there were a handful of times my bank account went down to 1 digit. I cook badly and I have a complicated relationship with eating. I feel insecure about my works all the time, day and night."
