VVOB joins the Alliance for Greening Skills and Opportunities (AGSO) Africa!
Across , sustainable agrifood is expanding and renewable energy is growing fast. These shifts can create new opportunities for young people, but developing skills alone will not make that happen. and training, enterprise and employment, investment and climate action need to come together.
That message came back in two very different settings. At the GreenWorks 4 Africa Forum hosted by Jacob's Ladder Africa (JLA) in Nairobi, the Alliance for Greening Skills and Opportunities (AGSO-Africa) was expanded. We joined the conversation on the workforce, enterprises and partnerships needed for Africa's green transition. During and Climate Week NYC, our "From Green Skills to Green Futures" convening returned to the same challenge: when education, employment and climate systems work parallel, young people risk falling between them.
Both conversations point in the same direction: we need to go from fragmented efforts to collective action.
-Africa connects employers, investors, policymakers, knowledge and networks across the continent. Through our Skilling for Sustainable Futures flagship, VVOB brings partnerships with ministries of education, expertise in secondary education and TVET, and experience strengthening school leaders, teachers and pedagogies that connect classrooms to real-world learning.
Together, we want to bring education systems into the conversation about green economic transformation from the start, rather than asking them to respond once skills needs have already been defined.
Because ultimately, this is not about coordination for its own sake. We need to create smoother school-to-work pathways into green economic opportunities, so that Africa's young people can be at the forefront of the green transition.
