☀️ Our colleague Heleen Schockaert represented us at the Macedonian Energy Forum this week!
🏫 During the panel discussion on "Just transition and social inclusion", Heleen spoke about the social dimensions of the energy transition and highlighted the case of Belica, where an old school building was transofrmed into a community facility with solar panels on the roof. The revenues from solar energy are now used to organise community events, and the project has helped to bring people back to a rural environment. 🌱
📢 Miodrag Milosavljevic, Deputy Director of Open Society Foundations | Western Balkans, emphasized that local communities are the engine of the green transition, with local energy initiatives, such as solar school projects and youth-led initiatives, creating a lot of value.
🤝 The energy forum was also a great opportunity to meet with our members Sunrise and the Association for Development of the Local Community of Belica to learn more about the groundbreaking work they are doing in the region!
