We are back in Bologna for the second Transnational meeting of AI-ASSISTANTS4PID project.
Hosted by Aias Bologna ets, the meeting focuses on:
- Assessing the results of Work Package 2
- Discussing the project’s training programme
- Planning the next activities ahead

AI-ASSISTANTS4PID unites partners from seven countries to empower people with intellectual disabilities through AI-assisted solutions — building digital literacy, supporting independent living, and developing tailored training resources for PID and the professionals and families around them.
We are proud to contribute to this work alongside our partners, and grateful to AIAS for the warm welcome to Bologna. 💙

Today we’re in Milan at SDA Bocconi School of Management to attend the event “Promoting social inclusion through sport: social franchising and the RunChallenge case study.”
How do you take a model that works in one city and bring it to communities across Europe? That’s the question at the heart of RunChallenge — a project that makes physical activity accessible to everyone, where people of all ages, genders and abilities, including absolute beginners, train together by running, walking or rolling.
Through the Erasmus+ co-funded RunChallenge Europe, ARFIE and our partners are exploring social franchising as a way to scale inclusive sport responsibly — combining research led by Bocconi with practical replication tools, so more cities can build their own inclusive running communities.
Sport is never just about fitness. It’s about confidence, connection and belonging. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🦽

Big steps forward for independent living!
The partners of the HS4IL - Housing for independent living project are currently together for our 4th Transnational Project Meeting. 🏡
Right now, our focus is all about turning data into action. In particular, we are working on:
1️⃣ Discussing the results of WP3, evaluating the best digital technologies and support practices that promote autonomy for people with disabilities.
2️⃣ Planning our upcoming pilot actions under WP4 to test these innovative housing solutions in real-world settings!
3️⃣ Implement the Living-Lab workshop with the support of experts and stakeholders.
We believe that everyone deserves the right to live independently and be an active part of their community. By blending smart technology with inclusive housing, we are making that reality closer every day… and we’re happy to do so together with APEMH AMPANS CERCINA Live-säätiö Open Group Impresa Sociale Bologna and Housing Europe

RunChallenge Europe in Bratislava! 🇸🇰
This week, ARFIE is taking part in the Transnational Project Meeting of RunChallenge Europe, joining our partners to take stock of how the project is advancing across the continent.
On the agenda:
- Reviewing the activities and progress of the RunChallenge points active across Europe 🇪🇺
- Assessing the social franchise model developed by SDA Bocconi 📊
- A dedicated training session expertly organised by our local host Run For Fun

ARFIE at the European Disability Forum Annual General Assembly in Cyprus 🇨🇾
ARFIE is taking part in the 2026 Annual General Assembly of the European Disability Forum (EDF), currently underway in Cyprus in the framework of the Cypriot Presidency. A warm acknowledgement to the Cyprus Confederation of Organisations of People with Disabilities, whose active contribution to organising this event reflects their strong commitment to inclusion, participation, independent living and the rights of persons with disabilities.
This year's Assembly marked a significant moment in the life of the Forum, with the election of several key bodies:
🔹 After decades of leadership, Yannis Vardakastanis steps down from the EDF Presidency — leaving behind a remarkable legacy in the European disability rights movement.
🔹 Gunta Anca, representing SUSTENTO – The Latvian Umbrella Body for Disability Organisations, has been elected as the new EDF President. Congratulations on her appointment.
🔹 The full Board of Directors has been renewed, alongside several functional committees.
Our delegates on the ground, Alberto Alberani and Raymond Ceccotto, used the occasion to reconnect with representatives of Cypriot organisations, with the aim of exploring new partnerships — in particular with Themida Anthopoulou, President of the Cyprus Confederation of Disability Organizations (CCDO).
A meaningful moment for European disability advocacy, and for ARFIE's commitment to building strong, inclusive partnerships across Europe.

🇪🇺 DEMS Project — 2nd Transnational Project Meeting in Finland 🇫🇮

This week the DEMS partnership is meeting in Finland, hosted by Live-säätiö for the second Transnational Project Meeting of our journey together.

At the heart of the discussion: the European survey on management models adopted by social economy enterprises that provide services for disadvantaged groups. The results will help us map how organisations across Europe are balancing mission-driven values with effective, agile and participatory management — and where innovation is most needed.

DEMS — Discovering Effective Management Solutions for Social Services Providers in the Field of Disability — explores horizontal and vertical structures, self-management and agile approaches to strengthen the resilience of social economy organisations and the quality of services for the people they support.

A huge thank you to Live-säätiö for the warm welcome, and to all partners (Tricentenaire, In-Red Galicia, Esment, Open Group Impresa Sociale Bologna, and SDA Bocconi School of Management) for two intense and inspiring days of work together.

On Thursday’s World Autism Awareness Day, we celebrate the invaluable contributions of autistic people to communities worldwide.

“Like anyone else, autistic people should be able to shape their own lives — and help to shape our shared future. They bring talents, perspectives and contributions that make the world a better place,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres, calling for their full inclusion and participation in society.

"Through equal education, fair employment and accessible health systems, we can ensure that autistic people have the opportunities they deserve to participate and thrive,” he stressed, adding:

“Embracing diversity strengthens us all.”
