Sorghum ID

From 0 to 30 hectares of sorghum in just 3 years: Kacper Piechota’s winning bet 🇵🇱

Sorghum is gaining ground in Europe, and field results confirm the strategic value of this crop. 🌾

Kacper Piechota, a farmer in Lubosz, Poland, manages a 180-hectare farm. To extend and diversify his rotations, he chose to introduce sorghum. The result? A growth from 0 to 30 hectares in just 3 years.

In his testimony, Kacper explains his variety selection process and why sorghum has become a pillar of his climate and agronomic resilience strategy—a trend that is increasingly common across Poland.

Sorghum and Corn: two complementary crops

Why choose when you can combine? For sustainable agriculture and strengthened food sovereignty, the key lies in complementarity.

Just like in an ideal garage, each "vehicle" has its own strategic role:

Sorghum, your robust "4x4": It is the ideal ally for low-rainfall areas or poor soils.

Corn, your high-speed "racing car": It excels where conditions are ideal (fertile soils, abundant irrigation) to maximize high yields.

Why combine both?
This smart diversification covers both periods of stress and favorable conditions, thereby reducing the risk of loss and improving the overall resilience of your farm.

As Thierry Lecat (Business Manager Western Europe at Advanta) points out: "Sorghum is not a competitor to corn, but a strategic partner."

What if sorghum became a global priority?

Sorghum is more than just a crop; it is a strategic asset for food security and climate resilience. However, for it to take its rightful place on the international stage, goodwill is no longer enough: we need action.

At the European Sorghum Congress, Nate Blum (former CEO of Sorghum United) shared his roadmap for turning potential into reality. His message is a call to action for the entire value chain—from farmers to policymakers:

Promote the Value: Sorghum is a reliable, profitable, and sustainable solution.

Trust the Evidence: The industry is built on concrete data and tangible results.

Share Success Stories: Highlighting the farmers and regions thriving with sorghum to inspire global change.

Build Strong Alliances: The future of sorghum lies in collaboration between businesses, researchers, NGOs, and institutions.

The time for talk is over. It is time to act with method and boldness toward a more resilient agriculture.

Sorghum at the heart of the global agenda in 2026! 🌍

Sorghum is establishing itself as a crop of the future, and the next major event is now set: the Global Sorghum Conference will be held in Lubbock, Texas, USA, from September 14 to 18!

This world-class event provides a unique opportunity to connect research with industrial players, sharing genetic and cultural innovations while strengthening cooperation to face the challenges of food security and climate resilience.

Sorghum ID will represent the European sorghum sector at this meeting, and Valérie Brochet, our association's delegate, will participate in a roundtable discussion with other representatives from national associations present (USA, India, Brazil).

Researchers, producers, or industrial players: this is where the future of the crop is taking shape.

Insights: Sorghum, a driving force for the bio-energy transition

Faced with the urgent need for decarbonization, the energy sector is turning its attention to a high-performance environmental crop: sorghum.

In his technical analysis for Sorghum ID, Da Costa Parrella, a researcher at the Brazilian institute Embrapa, demonstrates how sorghum is no longer just an agronomic asset, but a genuine profitability lever for the biogas and biomethane industries.

During his speech at the last Sorghum Congress, he shared the example of bioenergy production in Brazil: varieties, ideotypes, and concrete case studies illustrating the success of this industry.

Analysis: Sorghum, a Strategic Asset for the Agro-Energy Transition

In the face of decarbonization imperatives and climate resilience, the sorghum industry stands as a key lever for energy sovereignty. During their presentation for Sorghum ID, two international experts outlined the future of this high-precision crop: John Duff from the United Sorghum Checkoff Program (USCP) and Florentino Lopez, founder of Creando Mañana.

Their cross-diagnostic demonstrates that the success of sorghum in the United States is not an exception, but rather a model to be replicated.

The synergy of their analyses proves that sorghum is an industry that bridges the gap between agronomic performance and economic profitability.
