Now gathered in three easy-to-read handbooks, the 71 testimonies that brought to life are available to download and share with your friends.

💡 More than a collection of testimonies, the handbooks capture the legacy of a project that raised migrant voices across civil society, universities, policymakers, high school classrooms, and even the European Parliament!

📸 Meet Ammar! He moved from Syria to Turkey, and then to Greece, where he arrived in 2017 as a 16 years old.

Although he lives in Glasgow now, his love for Greece, and specially for Thessaloniki, is still present in his heart:

🌟 Meet Apostolis 👉 Born in Albania, he moved to Greece with his parents at just three years old.

Although he is fully integrated in Greek culture, he experienced discrimination due to his Albanian origins. Because of this, he feels deeply against racism and how it affects young people:

💬 “It was very sad. Because many children lose a part of themselves through this process. They start to hide who they are.”

💫 Meet Katerina! The daughter of parents who moved from Georgia to Greece in search of a better life, she always felt part of both communities, regardless of where she was born.

Now, with her recently acquired Greek ID at hand, she claims Thessaloniki as her home, but will never close the door to her Georgian roots and family.

💬 “Sometimes, when I’m in Georgia, I feel Greek, and when I’m in Greece, I feel Georgian. I think it’s because I was raised with both cultures.”

returns to Brussels for a last dissemination stop! 🇧🇪

On 10 June, the European Institute of Arab Culture, one of the first collaborators during VOICES' first event in Belgium, welcomed both young people and migrant citizens to revisit the project’s journey and its valuable results.

The outcome? 👉45 participants among students, teachers and VOICES interviewees gathering for a vibrant session of remembrance, dialogue, and new connections.

🎤 Meet Valenti! He was born in Korçë, Albania, but in 1997, due to the difficult situation in his native country, he decided to move to Greece.

💬 “The first time that I arrived in Greece, I said: ‘Wow! Where am I?’ We used to be very isolated in Albania. When we arrived, it seemed like a big deal to us.”

Meet Olga! 👉 Born in Moldova, she moved to Austria as just 13 years old to study at a boarding school. Then, her adventurous ambition drove her to the UK, and somehow, later on, to Greece.

🤝 Meet Inga!

Born in Georgia, she moved to Greece in 2003 as a fresh 23 years-old looking for a better life. Now a mom and cookbook author, she feels part of the community of Thessaloniki, while staying proud of her heritage.

💬 “Basically, we were young kids (...). We wanted to improve our lives, but with the idea that, at some point, we could come back. But when the children came, that was not possible.”

🥳 Meet Eleni! ➡️ As an Armenian with Pontic Greek roots, she and her family made Greece their permanent resident in 1991.

Now fully immersed in the Greek way of life, she recalls a time where she felt trapped between 2 cultures and unable to communicate with others fluently. Challenges she overcame with relentless determination.

💬 “The Pontic song that says ‘I am Greek abroad and a foreigner in Greece’ - that is the most correct thing I’ve heard in my life.”

✨ Meet Ivanka Koynova!

From Bulgaria to Italy 🇧🇬 🇮🇹 What started as a simple holiday visit to see some friends transformed into a lifetime decision.

At 47, Ivanka started anew in a foreign country, using her culinary skills to build a calm and hopeful future.

💬 “I really liked the city: it’s calm, and the people are wonderful. This caught my attention, so I decided to try my luck.”
