JM International

JM International JMI is a global nonprofit that provides opportunities for young people and children to develop through music across all boundaries.

Founded in 1945, with a vision to rebuild the global bonds destroyed by World War II, JM International (JMI) uses the power of music to connect, empower and engage young people across all boundaries the world over. JMI has 73 member organisations in 61 countries and reaches over 7 million young people worldwide, aged 0-30, per year through more than 40,000 activities which embrace all styles of mu

sic. We specialise in helping young people to realise their potential through tailor-made music programs that embrace global values and promote inter-cultural exchange, understanding and peacebuilding through a plethora of musical disciplines. With the support and engagement of our network, we offer music experiences that make a difference in the lives of young people and their communities. JMI is supported by BELSPO, the Creative Europe Programme, MACP and Actiris.

June is Music Against Child Labour Month and as we approach the International Day Against Child Labour on June 12, we're calling on musicians everywhere to use their voices to raise awareness about a reality that still affects millions of children around the world. ✊

Today, more than 138 million children are engaged in child labour, many of them deprived of their right to education, safety, and a childhood.

The Music Against Child Labour initiative invites musicians, bands, choirs, orchestras, and music lovers everywhere to dedicate a concert in June to the global fight against child labour. A single performance can help spark conversations, raise awareness, and inspire change.

Use your stage. Raise awareness. Be part of the movement.

JMI joins 25 other organisations from across the European music sector in welcoming the European Parliament's draft report on AgoraEU and its recognition of music as a dedicated strand within the future programme.

This is an important step towards stronger support for Europe's music ecosystem, recognising both the cultural and social value of music, as well as the unique challenges faced by artists, educators, organisations, and music professionals across the sector.

We particularly welcome the report's focus on sustainability, fair remuneration, diversity, inclusion, cross-border collaboration, and the need to place human creativity at the centre of future cultural policies.

As negotiations continue, we join our partners in calling for the necessary funding, sector dialogue, and practical tools to ensure a strong and sustainable future for music in Europe.

Together, we continue to advocate for a music sector that is vibrant, inclusive, and accessible to all. 🇪🇺🎶

A huge thank you to our wonderful trainers Ella and Jess from Youth Music for sharing their knowledge, experiences, and insights throughout the training. 💬

We are also incredibly grateful to our co-organisers Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland and to all the dedicated participants and members of the JMI network whose commitment, openness, and energy continue to make this community so special. 🫂

Remembering Lonneke.
JMI mourns the passing of Eleonore “Lonneke” van der Linden, who left us last Wednesday, 11 March 2026, at the age of 54.
With heavy hearts and deep gratitude, we remember Lonneke as a dear friend, valued colleague, and committed representative of JM Netherlands and later JM Austria. Over many years, she brought warmth, energy, and generosity to our network, leaving a lasting mark on all who had the privilege of working and sharing moments with her.

Having started her journey in JMI as a youth delegate and later member of the Election Commission, Lonneke remained a strong and passionate advocate for young people, always encouraging their participation and championing their place at the heart of JMI’s international structure. She believed deeply in creating space for others, and in making sure new voices were heard.
As a member of the very first JMI Communications Committee, Lonneke helped shape not only ideas and initiatives, but also friendships and shared experiences. Together with her fellow committee members, she brought fun, laughter, creativity, and learning to our Joint meetings and General Assemblies. In doing so, she helped our members connect more deeply with one another, better understand each other’s work, and feel more at home within the JMI network.

Her life was cut short while doing what she loved most: supporting music and young musicians, as part of the team at the Vienna Konzerthaus. There is something profoundly meaningful in that, and it speaks so clearly of who she was and what she gave to the world.

We are thankful for her dedication, her hard work, her kindness, and the many wonderful memories we shared with her. She will be remembered with affection, respect, and gratitude.

Safe journey, Lonneke — and may there be endless music wherever you are.

Music has the power to build bridges across regions, cultures, and communities. Yet funding gaps, mobility restrictions, and ecosystem challenges continue to limit cooperation between Europe and the Arab World.

At the Euro-Arab Youth Music Summit 2025, 30 cultural institutions and experts came together in Brussels to openly discuss these barriers and imagine what stronger collaboration could look like. The result? Seven concrete recommendations focused on sustainable funding, artist mobility, music education, and long-term institutional cooperation.

Curious to find out what they are?
