From access to specialised expertise and clinical trials to strengthening patients' rights, the Expert Dialogue on Cross-Border Healthcare will explore what needs to change as Europe considers modernising its rules.

Convened by the European Parliament Intergroup on Cancer and Rare Diseases and hosted by MEP Giorgos Georgiou, the event will offer an opportunity to bring patient perspectives into the discussion on the future of cross-border healthcare.

On 19 October, ERN PaedCan will host an interactive webinar focused on the virtual case discussion platform CPMS 2.0.
The workshop is open to clinicians across the EU who may use CPMS 2.0 in their clinical practice and will provide an opportunity to learn more about the system through an interactive format.

🔬 Last week, the project was showcased at the “5 Years EU Cancer Mission: Stronger Through Connection” event in Brussels.

Coordinated by St. Anna Kinderkrebsforschung (CCRI), MONALISA is exploring the use of liquid biopsies to monitor relapse in children with neuroblastoma, with the aim of making monitoring less invasive and more personalised. 🧪💙

SIOPE is proud to contribute as Dissemination Lead, helping share the project’s work and impact across the paediatric oncology community.

🇪🇺 When the expertise you need exists elsewhere in Europe, crossing a border shouldn’t become another barrier to care.

For people living with rare diseases and cancers, accessing highly specialised care can mean looking beyond their own country. Yet administrative complexity, financial burdens and delays can still stand in the way.

On 4 November, the European Parliament Intergroup on Cancer and Rare Diseases and Giorgos Georgiou MEP will convene an Expert Dialogue bringing together MEPs, healthcare professionals and patient representatives.

The discussion will explore how Europe’s cross-border healthcare framework can better meet patients’ needs, including through improved access to specialised expertise, European Reference Networks, clinical trials and innovative treatments.

Why do some children and young people develop cancer – and what role might the environment play?
We close our series by looking towards a new frontier in childhood and young adult cancer research: MIREYA.
MIREYA project brings together expertise across Europe to investigate potential links between environmental exposures and rare cancers in children and young adults.

By integrating large-scale epidemiological, environmental and biological data and using advanced AI-based approaches, the project aims to generate new knowledge about factors that may contribute to cancer development – and ultimately support better prevention and research.

From understanding why cancers develop to improving diagnosis, treatment, care and survivorship, collaboration is what turns knowledge into progress. 💛
