📚 What happens when geoscientists from across Europe bring their expertise together?
One of the results is our collection of books, bringing together knowledge and perspectives on geoscience topics that matter to society. And they are freely available on our website!

The latest addition is 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 - 10 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐋𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫, exploring the minerals behind our homes, smartphones, transport, healthcare, renewable energy technologies and much more.

🌊 We have contributed to the EU Call for Evidence on the European Ocean Research and Innovation Strategy, calling for coordinated European action to develop harmonised and interoperable geological knowledge of the marine environment.

This knowledge is essential to support better decisions for Europe’s seas, coasts and sustainable blue economy. ✅

Building on GSEU Geological Service for Europe, this is also an opportunity to turn European geological cooperation into a lasting operational capability.

As Europe strengthens its approach to critical raw materials, we are calling for stronger minerals intelligence to support informed decisions on investment, supply security, and resilience.

In our response to the European Commission's Call for Evidence on the future European Critical Raw Materials Centre, we highlight the need to combine market intelligence with authoritative geological knowledge, including Europe's geological potential, resource base, exploration activity, and future supply opportunities. ⛏️

We also underline the contribution of Geological Survey Organisations and the emerging Geological Service for Europe, which is being established as the operational service arm of EuroGeoSurveys, in providing the evidence needed for long-term strategic decision-making.

Carbon Capture and Storage is expanding across Europe, and geological knowledge is helping make it possible. 🌍

Through our GeoEnergy Expert Group, EuroGeoSurveys contributes to key European initiatives supporting the implementation of the Net-Zero Industry Act and the CCS Directive.

Backed by the expertise of Geological Survey Organisations and open geological data through European Geological Data Infrastructure (EGDI), including the flagship Pan-European CO₂ storage atlas developed within the GSEU Geological Service for Europe project, we're helping build the knowledge needed for secure, scalable CO₂ storage in Europe.

🌡️ As Europe experiences more frequent and intense heatwaves, cities are searching for new ways to stay cool.

Did you know that, in most locations, ground temperatures remain remarkably stable below a depth of around 3.5 metres, typically at around 16 to 17 °C throughout the year?

That is why cities like Rome are now exploring how their extensive underground spaces could become climate refuges during periods of extreme heat. 💡
