Stand Up for Europe is a movement of citizens reclaiming their hope in a better future, something that only a united Europe can provide in a world where our countries individually have become too small to matter. Stand Up for Europe unites citizens from across Europe who are ready to stand up and build a better future through a more democratic and federal Europe, a Europe closer to the people and able to tackle univocally global challenges.

Asking people for their vision about the future of the European democracy might seem like something rather reserved for formal contexts at the top floors of the Brussels offices. 👨‍💼🇪🇺

And yet this July Stand Up for Europe decided to do exactly that but in a different way. We took over the parks of Brussels turning our invitation to participate in the debate on Democratic Resilience led by the European Commission ahead of their Citizens Panels this fall, into picnics and games. 🧺🃏

Curious to hear more about what we did this past month, then make sure to check out the latest article on our website written by Rieke Eschen about July for Democracy. The link is as always in our bio 🔗

And if you have an idea of your own on how to strengthen our democracy, then make sure to go to the Cutizens Engagement Platform and post a contribution! ✍️🙌

This weekend we take a look back at our last event bringing young people face to face with the experts on one of Europe’s greatest challenges - Competitiveness. 💶🙌

The Brussels Civic Incubator Lab was a unique opportunity not only for the participants to exchange ideas with top economists and with each other but also to come up with a concrete analysis of the situation. 🤔💡

Morgann Darche is taking us back to the Lab in her latest article summarizing the discussions and conclusions of the event.

🇪🇺 What does it take to bring Europe closer to its citizens?

For this new episode of the Brussels Lunch Talks, Morgann Darche had the pleasure of speaking with , Member of the European Parliament for Germany, about some of the most pressing questions facing European democracy today.

From citizen engagement and youth participation to the EU’s participatory tools, such as the European Citizens‘ Initiative and Citizens‘ Panels, they discussed how Europe can strengthen its connection with citizens and communicate in ways that are more modern, accessible and meaningful.

A big thank you to Lukas for this insightful conversation and for sharing his perspective on the future of democratic participation in Europe.

At Cologne Pride, 1.5 people took to the streets to defend equality, freedom and human dignity—because democracy is something we practice together.

In an increasingly complex global economic context, Europe is navigating its way forward to remain competitive and deliver for its people 🌍🇪🇺

What are the main problems at stake and more importantly what do young people think of it? Those were precisely the questions we discussed together with the participants and our experts at the Civic Incubator Lab which took place on 24 June in Brussels. 📌🙌

After hearing from Laszlo Andor (economist & former Commissioner) Fabian Zuleeg (Chief Executive & Economist of the European Policy Center) and Antonello Pietrangelli (Youth Representative of CESI), the young people in the room got the chance to discuss directly with the speakers in a ‘speed-dating’ dialogue format. 🗣️

In the second half of the event, we listened to the youth’s concerns about the competitiveness of 5 key areas: Defence, Tech, Biotech, Trade and Sustainability. Their contributions will feed directly into our following event, during which we will aim to come up with policy solutions. ✍️📑

The Brussels Civic Incubator Lab was organized in the framework of the CERV-funded COMPASS project, together with A Seat At The Table and our local partner Na'omi Krawczyk

Make sure to keep an eye on the COMPASS journey and be part of the next event! 👀
