Well...ECI (European Citizens' Initiative) gives you the opportunity to be involved directly in European democracy and policies. 🇪🇺❗️

Guess what, EVERY EU citizens can launch an initiative or support an existing one. All it takes is 7 citizens, 7 member states and 1 million signatures. 💪

Over 100 young people told what they want the EU to be doing in order to make sure we get ready to face any crisis might arise 🚨‼️

During our Youth Citizens’ Dialogue earlier this year organised under the CitiDem Project, we discussed what preparedness is all about, how citizens can have their say in this process and most importantly we asked you what needs to be done. 🇪🇺

From geopolitical tensions to natural & human-induced disasters as well as hybrid threats, the young participants discussed what are the weaknesses Europe has to work on and they proposed concrete actions on how to tackle them. 🙌

We all know… the best ideas come about with a cup of coffee 😅☕️

And the best coffee? Without a doubt at the European Citizens’ Panel! 🙌🇪🇺

That being said, this weekend in Brussels the 150 randomly selected citizens from all over the continent have come together one last time to finish their work on how to better prepare Europe when a crisis strikes 🚨‼️

After many discussions in working groups (and during coffee breaks), the citizens came up with a set of 20 recommendations that were handed over to the European Commission. It is now the time for policymakers to make sure that the citizens’ proposals are being turned into action and will help us all better prepare for an emergency.

The current international context is marked by the return of war in various parts of the world, as well as by the collapse of international balances that were partly based on law and international organizations. The United Nations are more marginalized than ever, and the declarations underpinning international law are as well.

As for the European Union’s “soft power” approach, it too now appears outdated in a world where force and power once again seem to be the norm…
