Pearle Live Performance Europe

🔦 This week, Europe puts its regions and cities in the spotlight.

🫂 The EU Week of Regions and Cities reminds us that cohesion and belonging are felt first and foremost at the local level. Theatres, concert halls, festivals and orchestras are at the heart of regions and cities, embodying this local identity and creating bridges with neighbouring cities, regions and countries.

🎶Last week, Pearle* joined the "Music Sounds Better With You" event organised by the UK Mission to the European Union.

🇪🇺 ↔️ 🇬🇧 It brought together EU and UK policymakers as well as artists and music professionals to discuss how to support talent and strengthen cross-border collaboration between the EU and the UK.

🎤 In attendance was also UK Minister for Creative Industries, Media and Online Safety Ian Murray MP from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. His visit highlighted how deeply interconnected the UK and European music sectors are, and the importance of supporting artists to build audiences and careers across borders.

🎸 The event closed with live performances from emerging EU and UK artists at AB - Ancienne Belgique

🎤 This afternoon, Pearle* is joining the event "Live events under threat. How can the EU tackle piracy?" hosted by MEPs Hélder Sousa Silva and Maravillas Abadía Jover.

🏴‍☠️ Live piracy undermines investment in sport, culture and live entertainment, and exposes consumers to risks such as fraud, malware and data theft. Yet, despite the EU's 2023 Recommendation on combating online piracy of sports and other live events, the European Commission found that overall levels of live-event piracy had not been considerably tackled.

🎯 The event will look at the challenges faced on the ground and what further action, including possible legislative measures, could be taken at EU level.

🤝 Yesterday, Pearle* met with the other European social partners in the live performance sector (UNI Europa, the International Federation of Musicians, and the FIA - International Federation of Actors) to take stock of the OiRA project's evolution.

🛡️🦺 The OiRA risk assessment tools for live performance were developed almost 10 years ago. For the past year, we have been updating them to reflect current needs from the sector thanks to the invaluable work of all the experts who contributed.

This meeting was a great opportunity to discuss next steps, including finalising the review of the tools and the dissemination and promotion strategy.

👉 So keep an eye out for more news on the OiRA tools: https://www.pearle.eu/activity/reviewing-and-updating-oira-tools-in-the-live-performance-sector-2025-2027
