©️ Organising cross-border tours and performances also means having to clear copyrights and neighbouring rights beforehand. And this is not the easiest task!

📑🤯 Between different national frameworks, declaration requirements, and a lack of transparency, it often ends up being quite a headache. Add to that the lack of clarity regarding the division of responsibilities between all actors involved, from publishers to producers, organisers and collecting societies.

📚 The Pearle* report on administrative obstacles to mobility provides practical recommendations to EU institutions and member states to smoothen these processes and allow performing arts organisations to unleash their potential.

🐝 The 71st conference in Helsinki took place last week, and we’re still buzzing from these eventful days!

🎤 We were delighted to have an exclusive session with MEP Li Andersson, Chair of the European Parliament Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL). She shared insights into EU initiatives on employment and the performing arts, and exchanged with members on a future EU Artists Charter.

🇫🇮 Culture, democracy, and defence took centre stage as we learned about Finland’s unique approach to comprehensive security, where culture is embedded in national defence strategies. Rosa Meriläinen, Executive Director of Kulttuuri- ja taidealan keskusjärjestö KULTA ry, highlighted how arts and culture contribute to psychological resilience and societal cohesion.

💡The conference also featured practical discussions on preparedness, with examples from Finland, with Timo Tuovila (Ooppera & Baletti), and from Estonia, presented by Karin Närep (Estonian Ministry of Culture) and Ott Maaten (EETEAL).

♻️With Antti Rehtijärvi and Sari Kangas-Ikkala from the Helsingin Kaupunginteatteri, we delved into their work to reach net zero by 2040. They shared the theatre's Climate Roadmap, built on lessons learned over the last few years.

🤝For a workshop on leadership, well-being and creating better working conditions, we heard from Hanna Fontana, who provided a moment of exchange on how to become better employers and support staff members.

🏛️ For a short (figurative) trip outside of Helsinki, we had the opportunity to discover Oulu2026 - European Capital of Culture 2026, presented to us by Piia Rantala-Korhonen, who gave us a taste of this year’s European Capital of Culture.

🙏 A huge thank you to our hosts Suomen Teatterit ry and Suomen Sinfoniaorkesterit ry / Association of Finnish Symphony Orchestras, and to Kari Arffman for welcoming us to the Helsinki City Theatre. We are grateful to the speakers and participants for making this conference a success!

🇸🇪 This week, Pearle*'s director Anita Debaere is visiting our Swedish member Svensk Scenkonst in Malmö, for their Industry Day!

🎤 She will speak at a session on AgoraEU to present this new programme proposed by the European Commission to support culture from 2028 onwards.

🙏 Thank you, Svensk Scenkonst, for the invitation!

🎻 🎸 What is a violinist without their violin? Or a guitarist without their guitar?
For musicians to carry out their profession, it is essential for them to be able to travel with their instruments.

✈️ 💼 But between differing airlines' policies regarding travelling with musical instruments, rising costs of additional luggage, risk of damages, emergencies, or complicated CITES procedures, it is not an easy task to go on tour with musical instruments.

📑 The recent Pearle* mobility report proposes actions that EU institutions and Member States can implement to facilitate travelling with musical instruments, and allow musicians and performers to give the best possible shows, with the best possible tools!

💎 For this edition, we look forward to an exclusive session on 22 May with MEP Li Andersson, Chair of the European Parliament Committee on Employment and Social Affairs.

💬 This will be a one-of-a-kind opportunity for our members to gain insights into the EU initiatives around employment. It will also be a platform for them to share their views, highlight their achievements, or voice their concerns related to artists' working conditions, social affairs, etc.

🙏 Thank you to Suomen Teatterit ry and Suomen Sinfoniaorkesterit ry / Association of Finnish Symphony Orchestras
