🌱 Ever wondered what it actually takes to launch a solar energy community?

🌞 On 22 September, the EMÜ Põllumajandus- ja keskkonnainstituut is holding the final conference of the StartSun project, funded by Interreg.

👥 Community groups, local authorities, energy cooperatives, researchers and businesses will come together to swap real stories, from what worked to what didn't, in building solar energy communities from the ground up.

📖 Attendees will also get first access to the StartSun handbook and feasibility calculator, two practical tools for anyone thinking about starting their own energy community.

💡 European Energy Efficiency Conference 2027 is calling for papers and speakers!

Working on something relevant to Europe's ? The European Energy Efficiency Conference, part of World Sustainable Energy Days 2027, is now accepting submissions, taking place 3-5 March in Wels, Austria.

The conference brings together businesses, public bodies, researchers and policymakers to explore the latest policies, technologies and solutions for an affordable, secure and future.

Two ways to get involved: submit a paper, or nominate a speaker, yourself included.

Do we really need to own everything? And what would happen if we started asking ourselves: what do we actually need? 💭

Energy sufficiency is often misunderstood as simply “consuming less”. But it is about much more than that.

From sharing and repairing to better urban planning, public transport and low-tech solutions, sufficiency offers practical ways to reduce energy and resource demand while maintaining — and often improving — our quality of life.

Inspired by her book "Guide de la Sobriété au Quotidien", we spoke with Marie-Laure Falque Masset, FEDARENE Vice-President for Energy Sufficiency, about bringing sufficiency from everyday life to the European agenda.

She shares why:

🌱 A year-round greenhouse at Orissaare School on Saaremaa Island is helping students learn about renewable energy by doing.

Developed in cooperation with the Saarte Energiaagentuur, the greenhouse is powered by solar panels, a vertical-axis wind turbine and, when needed, the electricity grid.

Students can monitor energy production and consumption online, collect data, and use it in lessons ranging from mathematics and physics to chemistry and natural sciences. The greenhouse is already being used by pupils, with tomatoes, pumpkins and flowers planted inside.

The project shows how Energy Agencies can bring the clean energy transition into classrooms, making renewable energy practical, visible and accessible for young people.
