AI is already reshaping psychological practice through assessment, support, and digital interventions.

What matters now is not adoption, but the standards we set:
how we ensure validity, protect privacy, reduce bias, and keep human judgment at the center.

This is where psychology must lead, not follow.

Comment one principle you believe should be non-negotiable. 👇

The European Federation of Psychologists' Associations will participate in the Digital World Conference 2026 taking place in the United Nations Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland (1).

The event, co-organised by the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) and the World Digital Technology Academy (World Digital Technology Academy (WDTA), is a global platform for dialogue and cooperation. It brings together governments, industry, academia, investors, and civil society to translate the United Nations’ Pact for the Future (2) and Global Digital Compact (3) into actionable and sustainable forms of global collaboration.

EFPA's participation will focus on AI for Social Protection. The panel on this topic examines how AI and other digital technologies can be governed and applied within social protection systems to uphold social rights and reduce vulnerability, with a primary focus on healthcare as a core pillar of social protection.

This participation is part of the Federation's focus on and its impact on as a policy priority. In 2025 representatives from throughout EFPA's membership developed 6 digitalisation priorities: Co-Production of Regulation; People-Centred Development; Transparent & Controllable; Digital Literacy & Accessibility; Navigable Digital Determinants; Enhance, Not Replace (4).

Work now focuses on implementing these principles at the levels of policy, research and practice, and encouraging the broader societal collaboration required to support that being achieved. This requires close collaboration between national and European levels, and positioning within international governance frameworks such as the United Nations system.

World Health Day 2026: Standing with science for mental health

On World Health Day, the European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations (EFPA) joins the World Health Organization’s call to action under this year’s theme: “Together for health. Stand with science.”

📍 Mental health must be part of the scientific foundation shaping health policy and practice across Europe.

📍 Psychological research continues to provide strong evidence on how to support and prevent mental health difficulties and promote wellbeing across the lifespan.

⛓️‍💥 Yet access to these evidence-based approaches is still uneven, and public trust in science is increasingly challenged.

📣 EFPA calls on policymakers, professionals and communities across Europe to recognise as an essential part of overall health and to ensure that the approach taken is built upon evidence-based psychological science.

Day 3 at the !

Mental health care in Europe is at a pivotal moment, and collaboration has never been more essential.
The Joint Symposium, bringing together European Federation of Psychologists' Associations (EFPA), EUFAMI, GAMIAN-Europe, and , that kick-started our day, highlighted a shared commitment to addressing some of the most pressing challenges facing mental health across the continent.
A key message that resonated strongly came from Åsa Konradsson-Geuken, who emphasised something we must not overlook: families are not just supporters, but they are partners in care. Their lived experience, insight, and continuous involvement are fundamental to achieving better outcomes for individuals and stronger, more responsive systems.
If we are serious about transforming mental health care, we must ensure that families are recognised, included, and empowered at every level; from policy to practice.

📣 The European Commission has launched a public consultation to strengthen the European Child Guarantee (ECG) - see link in comments, open until 9 April 2026.

🫂 The initiative aims to reinforce national and local implementation of the ECG and improve access to essential services for children in need, including childcare, education, , nutrition, and housing.

💯 Through political commitment, national action plans, monitoring, and alignment with EU funding instruments such as the European Social Fund Plus, Member States are encouraged to strengthen support systems for vulnerable children.

👁️‍🗨️ The updated monitoring framework (Autumn 2025) highlights a significant gap: is only minimally addressed, despite growing concerns.

✍ Endorsing the recommendations on the latest reports from WHO Regional Office for Europe, EFPA has contributed to the consultation, calling for a stronger and more explicit focus on mental health within the Child Guarantee. Key recommendations include:

👍 Ensuring that access to healthcare explicitly covers mental health promotion, prevention, early identification, and treatment, particularly through primary care services.

👍 Strengthening the role of schools in supporting well-being, including access to psychologists or counsellors and whole-school approaches to mental health.

👍 Improving cooperation between health, education, and social services to ensure effective referral pathways and integrated local support for children in need.

These proposals aim to ensure that mental health is fully embedded in efforts to combat child poverty and promote the well-being of all children across Europe.

This is not an abstract forecast.
This is about preparing our response-now.

Psychology is entering a decade of rapid technological and societal change, and the questions we ask today will shape how the field evolves.
