The most important shifts in sustainability rarely arrive as breaking news. They build slowly, across water, energy, ecosystems and mobility, and they reward the people who stay with them.
Planet REVOLVE is built for that rhythm. A monthly newsletter to keep you current. A quarterly digital magazine that goes deep. Invitations to events, trainings and workshops where the conversation continues in person.

Around it sits a network of professionals, researchers and advocates working on the same challenges you are. And every membership keeps independent sustainability journalism going.

Nearly half the world's olive oil comes from Spain. So what happens to it as the climate warms? 🫒

It is already happening. In the 2022/23 season, drought cut Spain's olive crop to a third of a normal year and pushed prices up a record 111%. Desertification now threatens 74% of the country's land. In Andalusia, the climate story has quietly become a soil story.

For our feature The Social Tree, REVOLVE travelled through the Altiplano Estepario in southeastern Spain to meet the olive and almond growers rewriting how they farm: no-till, cover crops, agroforestry, and returning organic matter to the land. Backed by the AlVelAl association and the EU-funded GOV4ALL project, they are rebuilding soil health, and giving young people a reason to stay.

Can regenerative farming keep landscapes like this alive? Read the story and tell us what you think: https://hubs.ly/Q04sWRZH0

Building a microgrid sounds simple: generate power locally, keep it running when the main grid can't. But who leads that effort - a city, a utility or a community group - changes everything about how it unfolds.

In her latest op-ed for REVOLVE, Dr Maham Furqan (World Bank Group) introduces the "Policy Hourglass Model": a framework for how microgrid policy filters down from national government to local communities, and how a single successful local project can ripple back out to inspire others.

Who do you think should be leading the charge on local energy, governments or communities? Read the full op-ed and tell us where you land: https://hubs.ly/Q04snfWr0

Europe has a hydrogen strategy. What it does not yet have is the industry to match it.

In a new op-ed, Dr. Thomas Hillig argues that green hydrogen is not only a climate instrument but a future industrial market, and right now China holds more than half of the world's installed electrolyser capacity. The frameworks exist, through the European Hydrogen Strategy and the Market Package, but implementation across Member States stays uneven, and market forces alone will not align production, transport, storage and offtake fast enough.

His closing point is the one worth sitting with: this is no longer just a climate question, it is a question of industrial sovereignty. Do you think Europe can still build its share in time?

What if the best storm defence was not a wall, but a marsh?

Saltmarshes are the interface between land and sea: coastal wetlands that flood and drain with the tides, host salt-tolerant plants, and serve as nursery grounds for fish and resting stops for migratory birds.

They are also remarkably good at protecting us. Where a concrete seawall resists water until it potentially fails, a saltmarsh absorbs wave energy and keeps working. Research puts the average reduction in wave height at 72%. During Hurricane Sandy, coastal wetlands reduced property damages by more than 10% on average across the affected area.

The catch is that we have been removing them for centuries. The UK has lost 85% of its saltmarshes since the 1800s, at an estimated cost of up to GBP 786 million a year in lost protection alone.

Our new Beyond the Basics explainer breaks down how saltmarshes form, why they disappeared, and what restoring them at Txingudi Bay with Regions4Climate could mean for coastlines across Europe.

🚗 Electric cars outsold petrol in the UK for the first time ever
In the 12 months to May 2026, UK drivers bought 516,490 new battery-electric vehicles, edging past the 504,010 new petrol cars sold. A tipping point years in the making, and a sign the transition is now consumer-driven.

🌳 Italy has more forest than farmland for the first time since the Middle Ages
Woodlands now cover around 155,000 square kilometres of the Italian peninsula, overtaking agricultural land. Denser forests are delivering record carbon storage, cleaner air and water, and safer habitat for wildlife like the critically endangered Marsican brown bear.
