YMCA Europe Roots Ecosystem

YMCA Europe Roots Ecosystem Roots for Peace is a YMCA Europe initiative for stronger youth activism towards peaceful transformation of conflicts in Europe.

CURRENT PHASE 2020 - 2022
It should be within the paramount interest of the global community to contribute towards building the peace, as it represents the basis of prosperity and progress. And it is essential to address the issue at grassroots level, since it is impossible to achieve real peace until the society is prepared and ready for it. Therefore, it is crucial to grant young people with as

many opportunities as possible to be involved in dialogues, peace-building and conflict resolution initiatives and actions. Youth drastically need the platforms where their voices will be heard; their priorities will be taken into account; and where they can elaborate and implement projects that may and will tackle the root causes of conflicts – stereotypes, misunderstanding & lack of trust. The Roots has developed human and resource mobilization capacities, effective methodology and best practice programme delivery tools that can be easily multiplied to new circumstances and dimensions. It has developed its identical safe space methodology, based on Do No Harm approach. It has elaborated number of best practice conflict transformation schemes, such as the Peace Work Institute (including Guidebook) or the Local Capacities for Peace components.

✨Meet Kristine. She has been a beneficiary of YMCA Generation Next Scholarship for two years allowing her to gain higher education and an empowering community after being displaced due to war.

Throughout her journey with the Generation Next, she has been an active volunteer, contributing her skills in translation and storytelling, and a young advocate for a better world 🌍

Today, she graduates but remains part of the program as an alumna equipped with the knowledge, skills and values to make a positive impact in any path she takes👩‍🎓

🔻On 6 June 1844, a small group of young men led by George Williams gathered in London with a bold vision: to support the spiritual, mental, and physical wellbeing of young people in a time of profound social change.

182 years later, that vision continues to live and grow. Across the world, YMCA empowers communities, creates safe and inclusive spaces, amplifies youth voices, and stands firmly for peace, justice, and equity for all.

💡If George Williams were walking among us today, he would recognise the challenges of our time—and he would stand with us. He would champion the same mission, driven by the same belief: that young people deserve opportunity, support, and a community where they can truly thrive.
