Democracy is not only protected through institutions, it is built through learning, dialogue, and participation.

The Feminist Futures Festival, organised by Sophia, Belgian Gender Studies Network and the CCINDLE Project (https://ccindle.org/), supported by the European Union, brought together researchers, educators, and civil society to explore how we can strengthen democracy, challenge exclusionary narratives, and build more inclusive communities through knowledge sharing and collaboration.

This also reflects EAEA's annual theme on Resilience and Community Building, highlighting the vital role of learning and collaboration in strengthening democracy. A timely reminder that resilient societies are created when we come together to learn from one another.

As discussions on the next EU long-term budget (MFF) continue, we must remember that education and lifelong learning are not costs — they are strategic investments in Europe's competitiveness, resilience and democracy.

Through the campaign, we're calling for a stronger Erasmus+, a diverse funding ecosystem for adult learning, and an EU budget that puts people at the heart of Europe's future.

Every cut today will cost Europe more tomorrow.

📢 Call for Participants: Educators in the Digital Era

Today's educators wear two hats: facilitating human-centred learning while also designing meaningful digital learning experiences. Instructional design has never been more visible or more essential - regular AI use among educators currently ranges from just 14% in France to 46% in Malta. To keep pace, the European Commission is updating the European Digital Competence Framework for Educators (DigCompEdu) to reflect developments in AI, blended/hybrid learning, and digital well-being.

🎓 That's why the European is launching its first-ever squad and summer school: "Educators in the Digital Era: from Facilitators to Instructional Designers."

The goals:
🤝 Bring together educators, researchers, and education professionals from across Europe to share practices and innovations in digital education
🔍 Critically examine how emerging technologies are reshaping educators' competences, identities, and professional development needs
🛠️ Co-develop resources, tools, and guidelines that support educators in embracing their dual role as facilitators and instructional designers

📅 Squad: September 2026 – January 2027
📍 Summer school: Porto, 31 August – 1 September

🫶How can communities foster resilience in times of uncertainty?

At the EAEA Annual Conference 2026 in Warsaw, participants from across Europe explored how resilience is built through relationships, communities and supportive systems.

Alicja Gałązka’s inspiring keynote highlighted resilience as a collective process, while the thought-provoking panel discussion explored resilience in contexts of crisis and conflict. Together, they emphasised the importance of social connection, solidarity and adult learning in uncertain times.
