Every September, communities across Europe make a collective choice: to move more, to include more, and to build a culture of sport that reaches every citizen, regardless of age, background, or ability.

The European Week of Sport, held annually under the European Commission's initiative, is one of the continent's largest celebrations of physical activity and healthy lifestyles. ACES Europe is a proud official partner of this initiative.

We encourage all ACES-recognised cities, regions, and communities to begin planning their participation now: organise events, open sport facilities, engage schools and local clubs, and use the Week as an opportunity to place sport at the very centre of your local agenda.

The European Week of Sport is not a calendar event. It is a movement, and it belongs to all of us.

Follow our page for more information on how your city or region can participate in the European Week of Sport 2026.

Mountain territories face some of Europe's most complex challenges: climate change, depopulation, economic transition, and the need to build public spaces that genuinely include everyone.

Sport, when properly embedded in local policy, has the capacity to address all of these.

At the ACES Destinazione Montagna congress in Folgaria (22–24 May), European delegations gather to tackle exactly these questions, sharing models, policies, and practices that make mountain communities more liveable, more resilient, and more inclusive.

Swipe through the six thematic pillars of the congress, and see why building sport in the mountains is fundamentally about building communities.

From 22 to 24 May, Folgaria, European Community of Sport 2025, welcomes the second edition of ACES Destinazione Montagna, an international congress dedicated to the sustainable development of mountain territories through sport.

This year's theme: 'The Mountain for Everyone: Sport, Accessibility and Community.'

The congress brings together European delegations to share good practices, exchange policy frameworks, and build concrete commitments. Six thematic pillars structure the work: sport infrastructure, event legacy, climate resilience, circular economy, identity and community, and inclusion and accessibility.

The first edition produced the European Manifesto for the Mountain. This year, that commitment deepens, with more targeted, action-oriented contributions from each participating delegation.

Folgaria is not simply hosting a congress. It is demonstrating, in practice, what sport-driven community development looks like in a mountain territory.

Sport does not stop at the city gates, and it does not stop at the office door either.

The ACES European Sport and Healthy Company Award recognises companies that have made employee wellbeing a genuine organisational commitment. Not a benefit package. Not a marketing claim. A policy built into how they work.

Organisations awarded this recognition demonstrate active investment in:
– Structured physical activity programmes for employees
– A healthy, inclusive work environment and culture
– Sport as a contributor to productivity, mental health, and team cohesion

This recognition is part of ACES Europe's broader vision: that sport belongs in every aspect of public and professional life. Companies, like cities, can be leaders in building healthier communities, starting from within.

In 2026, five cities across three continents carry a shared message: sport is more than competition. It is a force for inclusion, public health, and community development.

ACES Europe is proud to recognise:
πŸ›οΈ Naples (Italy) - European Capital of Sport
🌎 Guayaquil (Ecuador) - American Capital of Sport
β˜€οΈ Elche (Spain) - Mediterranean Capital of Sport
🚴 Konya (Turkey) - European Capital of Cycling
🌍 Baku (Azerbaijan) - World Capital of Sport

Each of these cities has demonstrated that sport can function as a genuine policy instrument, embedded in urban planning, education, health systems, and social cohesion strategies. Their stories are a source of inspiration for communities everywhere.

Behind every title is a commitment. Behind every commitment is a community.

Every city has a story worth telling. 🎬

The ACES International Video Awards 2026 are officially open, and this year, we invite cities, regions, communities, and sport organisations from across the ACES network to share their stories through the power of video.

AIVA is not a film competition in the traditional sense. It is a platform to document and amplify the real role of sport in local communities, the projects, the people, and the policies that make cities better places to live.

Videos are evaluated on storytelling quality, social impact, and the community values they represent. If your city has invested in sport as a tool for inclusion, health, or development, this is your opportunity to show the world.

Submissions are open now.

Visit the link in our bio for the full participation guidelines, categories, and submission deadline for AIVA 2026.
