Children’s well-being must remain at the heart of EU social policies 💙

This week, COFACE Families Europe participated in the high-level conference “No Child Is Left Behind: Promoting Child Well-Being and Combating Child Poverty”, organised under the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The discussions brought together policymakers, civil society and experts to exchange on child poverty, early childhood investment and the implementation of the European Child Guarantee across Europe. COFACE highlighted the importance of integrated family support services and preventive approaches that strengthen the well-being of children and families alike.

COFACE Families Europe attended the closing event of the FEM-MIAS project (Women in Micro-businesses Ask for Sustainable Growth) in Brussels!

What a great opportunity to learn about the tools developed by the project partners to support female entrepreneurship in Europe and network with female entrepreneurs.

The initiative, funded by the Erasmus+ programme, brought together partner organisations from Portugal, Sweden and Belgium.

Our Portuguese member, Mulheres à Obra, played a central role as a core partner in the project, representing and supporting thousands of women in Portugal, including many mumpreneurs.

🎉Happy European Day of Solidarity between Generations!

On this occasion at COFACE Families Europe, we want to highlight an important step forward from the European Commission: its first Strategy on Intergenerational Fairness and its effects on family well-being.

The strategy, adopted in March 2026, further develop long-term thinking in EU policymaking and to address complex challenges that affect present and future generations.

Enhancing solidarity between different generations goes beyond a policy goal.

By taking a lifecycle approach that addresses all generations, from young to elderly, the strategy will play an important role in family well-being and foster effective communication and cooperation between generations.

COFACE will therefore closely monitor its development and future implementation, while continuing to advocate for families’ well-being.

Today, on World Penguin Day, we celebrate a powerful lesson from nature.

Be a penguin. Share the care.

Penguin parents take turns keeping their eggs warm, feeding their young and protecting their family. It is a true partnership.

This simple but powerful example reminds us that sharing care responsibilities within families matters. When care is more equally distributed, it supports children’s wellbeing, strengthens relationships and allows both parents or carers to thrive.

At COFACE Families Europe, we believe policies and workplaces should reflect this reality by enabling all families to share care in a way that works for them.

Because when care is shared, everyone benefits. Read more here: https://coface-eu.org/key-findings-equality-at-home-and-at-work/

📢 NEW POSITION PAPER!

How do we truly protect children online? It’s time to move beyond age restrictions as the only solution.

Children have the right to be protected, but also to engage with and benefit from digital opportunities. The online environment itself must be designed to be safe and integrated into children’s educational and social contexts, not treated in opposition to them.

Technology companies must design appropriate environments and fully respect children’s rights, otherwise they should be banned from the market. Governments and regulators must set clear, enforceable rules and ensure accountability.

With our new position paper, “Towards digital safety and well-being for children and their families: Moving beyond social media age restrictions as the sole solution,” COFACE Families Europe calls for a more balanced and effective approach.

A practical guide to help families prevent harmful technology use and support children in the digital environment.

Developed by our member UNAF - Unión de Asociaciones Familiares , the guide frames digital education as a form of care and protection.
It promotes positive digital parenting through education, open dialogue, and healthy boundaries.

Families, professionals, and organisations are encouraged to explore the guide and share it within their networks to help raise awareness and support more families in developing healthy digital practices.
