IAMIC is an international network of organisations that collectively and collaboratively provides information and promotes the music of their countries or regions. We facilitate relationships among our members, creating networking opportunities that increase capabilities that support greater access to and appreciation of music. We aim to become the global network that facilitates the exchange of knowledge and expertise in the field of music, to increase international cooperation and performance.

Last week at Classical:NEXT Budapest, IAMIC held a useful session – led by Jonathan Grimes from The Contemporary Music Centre Ireland – that really affirmed the importance of our network and emphasised that exchanging information on how we work, along with the challenges we face, is so essential in these current times.

All member organisations shared a little about their current work – what they're excited about, as well as what they’re concerned about. Many common themes emerged, including: funding challenges; the ways in which artists and organisations are responding (or are able to respond) to conditions in their countries; and the drastic reduction of music education in schools, and how we need to take direct action in providing some of this – a key theme in Ivan Fischer's keynote.

This opportunity to get together during each Classical:NEXT – at a time between our annual conferences – continues to be so valuable to IAMIC’s mission to foster a spirit of openness, diversity and collaboration between international music centres. Thank you to all who were able to make it!

As has become an annual tradition, there will be many IAMIC member centres present at Classical:NEXT in Budapest next week. On Thursday 9th April we’ll be holding a meet-up which will provide opportunities to exchange information and insights among members, as well as to connect with the broader global music world to discuss shared opportunities and challenges.

We’re an international network of organisations that collectively and collaboratively provide information and promote the music of our countries and regions. Anyone interested in these discussions is welcome to join the meeting on Thursday at 14:00:

On the same day, the Australian Music Centre and Sounds Australia will host a Country Connections session, and the Scottish Music Centre, Culture Ireland, CMC Ireland, and Tŷ Cerdd | Music Wales will serve drinks in the afternoon, so there’ll be plenty of opportunities to say hello!

At the close of another inspiring and memorable conference with friends and colleagues - this time in Belgrade - we took time to share our knowledge, ideas, and solutions before a successful general assembly held at Ložionica, where we thanked our Serbian hosts and our members from Ireland and Wales. Fantastic new board members were appointed and we're already looking forward to continuing our work together toward a cultural future shaped by creativity, justice, and care, across all borders and differences before our next conference in 2026.

During our second conference day we delved deeply into issues surrounding "Culture, Populism, and the Power of Music" with our guest Michael Custodis. This laid the perfect groundwork for us to discuss our renewed Code of Common Values in the next session.

In the afternoon we heard from our members at and their vast research project into the current state of the Flemish arts field. And shares their ambitious forays into creating an AI chatbot.

We attended the opening night of festival at Ložionica, featuring accordionist Jakob Steinkellner from Austria and the Belgian-Senegalese ensemble Tamala, which brought the day to a close with some fantastically rich and varied sounds.

Classical:NEXT has become a regular highlight for many IAMIC members – and this year was no exception! In May, over ten IAMIC member organisations presented their work with their own booths at the international music forum in Berlin.

The event kicked off with a warm and lively IAMIC Reception on the very first day, generously sponsored by GVL (the German Organisation for the Management of Neighbouring Rights). It was a great opportunity to reconnect over food and drinks, meet new faces, and strengthen our international community.

We were also pleased to host another edition of the IAMIC Meetup, a valuable space for sharing insights and discussing common goals. Key topics this year included strengthening international networks and tackling shared challenges in the face of digital transformation - with a special focus on the evolving impact of AI.
