SDCG aisbl & LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS

Based on a Memorandum of Understanding signed between SDCG aisbl and local organizations (NGOs, civil society organizations, community-based organizations and SMEs), we provide services which contribute to enhance the capacities of our partners to support governments’ national strategic development plans by strengthening their ability to identify, design, monitor, and evaluate projects in accordance with international standards, with a specific focus on human development as well as human rights and gender-based approaches. The agreement between the SDCG aisbl and the partner organization will allow for the support of the latter throughout the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the project, while the ownership and sustainability of the project will be ensured by the partner organization. In addition, through our inter-regional network, we connect local organizations from different regions who are working on similar issues. This contributes to strengthen triangular cooperation by increasing opportunities for the exchange of best practices and lessons learned experiences regarding the achievement of development goals. We also support our partners in raising funds at local and international levels via the linking functions of the Country and Central Management Units. SDCG aisbl & INTERNATIONAL NGOs

OPERATIONAL CAPACITY & EXPERTISE

SDCG aisbl builds on a pre-existing network (http://www-3.unipv.it/cdn/index.php?id=2) consisting of development professionals from developed and developing countries, mainly alumni of the Master Programme in Cooperation and Development (CD) at the Institute of Advanced Studies of Pavia (IUSS Pavia), working in several areas along with international organizations, research institutions, regional and local governmental bodies, and firms. Every year, since 1997, the Master Programme in Cooperation and Development hosts students coming from all over the world and from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds. This constitutes one of the substantial assets of SDCG aisbl providing it with the necessary multiplicity to bring about change. This rich background is made stronger by the Master Programme itself, which sharpens students’ theoretical and practical foundations. The Master features: renowned professors and guest speakers, analysis of complex issues related to international cooperation and development; specialized training for proposal development; analysis of the political and institutional contexts in which NGOs and international organizations operate; and designing development scenarios (with particular reference to human development, human rights, and gender-based approaches). Moreover, these individuals are professionally prepared to identify, implement and manage development programs and interventions. IUSS Pavia is also part of a larger network, the Cooperation and Development Network of Pavia (CDN Pavia),including development professionals from diverse sectors, research institutions, civil society organizations and NGOs, to name a few. Email : [email protected] Our Vision and Mission

Our mission is to strengthen national ownership of internationally agreed development goals, notably the Millennium Development Goals while promoting South-South and triangular cooperation, and a closer cooperation between young development professionals and actors from developed and developing countries. We envisage a world where a fair partnership with the South, through South-South and triangular cooperation, is based on the enhanced capacities of local non-state actors, small and medium enterprises, and public institutions to implement a long-term human, social, and economic development. We recognize local organizations’ strong ability to master their local context and effectively prioritize problems. We also believe that given local institutions’ close proximity with local populations, enhancing local capacities to support governments’ national strategic development plans will have direct impacts on the awareness of the same population, especially youth and potential local donors about the challenges faced by the region, country, and the international community with regard to the achievement of development goals. Objectives

The SDCG aisbl shall provide services, which will contribute:

•to enhance the capacities of local organizations (local NGOs, SMEs, cooperatives and R&D centres) to support governments’ national strategic development plans;
•to strengthen South-South, North-South and triangular cooperation for development;
•to promote closer cooperation between young development professionals/actors from developed and developing countries by developing a large network for the exchange of best development practices and techniques;
•to reverse brain-drain by facilitating brain circulation and creating further opportunities for emigrants from developing countries living in Members States of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to contribute to the development of their countries of origin.

•renforcer les capacités des organisations locales à soutenir les priorités et stratégies nationales de développement des pays cibles ;
•renforcer la coopération Sud-Sud, Nord-Sud ainsi que la coopération triangulaire pour le développement ;
•promouvoir une coopération plus étroite entre les jeunes professionnels et acteurs de développement des pays développés et en développement, à travers la mise en place d’un vaste réseau pour l'échange des meilleures pratiques et techniques pour le développement ;

•Mejorar las capacidades de las organizaciones locales (ONGs, Pymes, cooperativas y centros de Investigación y Desarrollo) en apoyo a los planes estratégicos de desarrollo de los gobiernos nacionales;
•Fortalecer la cooperación para el desarrollo Sur-Sur, Norte-Sur y triangular;
•Promover una cooperación más cercana entre jóvenes profesionales del desarrollo/actores de países desarrollados y en vías de desarrollo, a través del establecimiento de una red para el intercambio de técnicas y buenas prácticas de desarrollo;

Obiettivi

L’associazione SDCG aisbl mira a contribuire a:

• potenziare le capacità delle organizzazioni locali (ONG locali, piccole e medie imprese, cooperative e centri di ricerca e sviluppo) al fine di sostenere i piani nazionali strategici dei governi per il raggiungimento dello sviluppo;
•rafforzare la cooperazione Sud-Sud, quella Nord-Sud e quella triangolare;
•promuovere una più stretta cooperazione tra giovani professionisti dello sviluppo provenienti dai paesi in via di sviluppo ed i paesi cosiddetti sviluppati, attraverso la creazione di un network per lo scambio delle migliori tecniche e pratiche di sviluppo;
