🔎 🤝Cross-border investigations help to create accountability on a systemic level, addressing how issues and potential solutions echo beyond national boundaries. This reporting practice reinforces the watchdog function of media ecosystems.

Around the world, some investigations we funded have generated a significant level of impact, from legislative changes, to resignations and governmental responses.

🚨Are you a journalist investigating food systems, supply chains, or policy across Europe?

Journalismfund Europe has launched The Invisible Life — a new cross-border grant programme shining a light on farmed animal welfare, one of the most systematically underreported topics in European media.

We're hosting a free introductory webinar where we'll cover:
✔ What the programme funds
✔ Who is eligible to apply
✔ How stories can connect welfare, trade, and policy

The programme is open to teams of at least two professional journalists or registered news outlets based in two or more countries — part of The Earth Investigations Programme, funded by Coefficient Giving.

📢 The European Cross-border grant programme supports collaborations between freelance journalists and media-organisations eager to investigate issues (and solutions) affecting Europe.

🧩This programme also offers reporting team with the support of a project advisor and a subject-matter expert, to help deepen, refine and strengthen the team's coordination, investigative methods and findings.

📰 Great to be at the third Editors' Forum in Sarajevo! 🌍 Under the theme "Journalism Without Borders", editors and journalists from across the Western Balkans came together to explore the power of cross-border collaboration.

Ronald Tipan walked attendees through grant opportunities available to journalists and media outlets ready to collaborate across borders, helping to make that first step feel a little less daunting.

🚨🌳 Overriding Private Interests Or Protecting Biodiversity?

📰 In Southern Italy, Porsche sought to clear 200 hectares of protected forest to expand its test track — invoking EU rules meant to safeguard human health and public safety. The catch? The project was overwhelmingly private.

The Bosco d'Arneo, a Natura 2000 site in one of the Mediterranean's most desertification-hit regions, narrowly avoided destruction. Local authorities suspended the controversial ruling after the European Commission stepped in — but the agreement was never formally cancelled.

This is what happens when the language of the common good is stretched to serve corporate interests — and why communities on the ground matter. 🇪🇺🌿

🌍 A cross-border journalistic investigation tracing the relocation of a scandal-hit Italian PFAS factory to India triggered protests, political backlash and national debate.

‼️ The investigation by Liva, Anna Violato, Marta Frigerio, Filippo Tommasoli and Thomas Goorden revealed how machinery from the former Miteni plant — linked to one of Europe’s worst PFAS contamination scandals — was dismantled, shipped and rebuilt in Maharashtra.

👿 Following the revelations, Indian lawmakers raised questions in parliament about the country’s lack of PFAS regulation. Public pressure grew as activists and residents demanded environmental testing and stronger safeguards against “forever chemicals”.

☠️ "This pollution-related controversy has exposed major concerns over the transfer from Europe to India of industrial equipment linked to pollution, and over the lack of Pfas regulations in the country,” the MP Pramod Tiwari said.

👀 India currently has no specific PFAS regulation, but the controversy has intensified calls for new oversight and possible future rules. The story also reignited a wider debate about the relocation of hazardous industries from Europe to countries with weaker environmental protections.
