Looking back on a wonderful first edition of the BENEBEN symposium, a collaboration between AICA Nederland and AICA Belgium on the topic of (self-)censorship in contemporary art criticism, chaired by presidents Joke De Wolf and Emmanuel Lambion

Day 1 began with a guided tour of “(Not) All Is Gold” at Cloud Seven , followed by inspiring keynotes from Wobbe Micha (artist), Zippora Elders (curator), Anna Raimondo (artist), and Michel De Wilde (curator), and contributions by Joke De Wolf (art critic), Christine Bluard (director ), and Tamara Beheydt (art critic and curator).

Day 2 continued with an intensive series of site visits at Vanhaerents Art Collection, Bozar, KIN, Nosbaum Reding, La Loge, and CAB, deepening our conversations and connections.

✨ Huge thanks to our members, speakers, and hosts for their generosity and inspiration. See you next year in the Netherlands! 🇳🇱 💛

Following a board meeting, AICA Belgium expresses its solidarity and concern about the recent decision by Flemish Minister for Culture Caroline Gennez to close the M HKA - Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp and move its collection to SMAK Gent.

This decision would hastily turn M HKA into an arts centre and disregards the rich history of Belgium’s first museum of contemporary art.
