🌍 How can we protect our shared heritage in the face of climate change?

On 5–6 October, the 📍 Site of Fortaleza de Sagres - Promontório de Sagres, Portugal, hosted the first Intergenerational Climate Conversation, bringing together heritage professionals, researchers, local communities and young people to explore the connections between climate adaptation and cultural and natural heritage.

Organised within the EU-funded European Heritage Hub by ICLEI Europe, together with Europa Nostra, Youth.Heritage.Europe. and the European Heritage Label Bureau, the event combined scientific research, local knowledge and intergenerational dialogue.

💬 Young people weren't just part of the conversation. They helped lead it!

👏 Our Youth Advisory Board member Alexander Dimitrov led a workshop exploring Sagres' living memory, while Samantha Tobiáš, NextGen Heritage Ambassador, examined the pressures climate change places on heritage.

🇲🇹 A historic milestone for Malta and the !

St Paul’s Catacombs in Rabat recently celebrated becoming Malta’s first European Heritage Label Site, marking the occasion with a special open day organised by Heritage Malta.

The celebrations brought together Glenn Micallef, European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport; Malcolm Paul Agius Galea, Malta’s Minister for Arts, Culture and National Heritage; Vincent Curie, Director of the European Heritage Label Bureau; and Mario Cutajar, Chairman of Heritage Malta.

🏛️ Visitors were invited to travel back in time through ancient Roman funeral re-enactments, curator-led tours and interactive archaeological activities, bringing centuries of history to life.

🇪🇪🇪🇺 The beginning of October in Tartu!

Over two days, Sites from Finland and Baltic countries have come together at the University of Tartu to exchange experiences, strengthen connections and explore new opportunities for cooperation.

On the 8th of October, participants shared their experiences and future ambitions, while exploring European funding opportunities for 2027 and future collaboration across the network.

🤝 On the 9th of October the focus shifted from exchange to action.

Through a collaborative workshop, participants worked together to identify areas for cooperation, develop joint project ideas, connect with potential partners and explore relevant European funding opportunities.

And, of course, there was time to explore the📍 Site Historic Ensemble of the University of Tartu and the Estonian National Museum.

is inherited from the past. But it doesn’t stay alive by itself. Throughout October, we are turning our attention to the people behind Europe’s living story and the Sites where that story continues to be shaped today.

🇪🇺🇷🇴 We have been busy!

The Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest became a space for young people and heritage professionals to think, discuss and create together!

50 participants have come together for the hashtag Youth Event, with one shared question at the centre of the day:

❓How can we strengthen youth participation in cultural heritage❓

On the 26th of September, participants exchanged perspectives on hashtag , hashtag , hashtag and hashtag , before diving into practical workshops:
→ Difficult heritage, memory and intergenerational dialogue
→ Connecting rural youth with EHL Sites
→ Communication for young audiences
→ Funding and turning ideas into action
→ Sustainable tourism

On the 27th of September, it was all about turning these conversations into action. Through the Co-Creation Labs, young people and heritage professionals worked side by side to develop concrete pilot activities and youth-led initiatives that could be further developed and tested at Romanian hashtag Sites.

And the work doesn’t stop in Bucharest!

The ideas developed here are a starting point for continued collaboration, creating new opportunities for young people, youth organisations and Romanian EHL Sites to keep working together beyond the event.

What do the stories of our heritage sites tell us about peace? 🕊️

From the Hambach Festival of 1832 to the Peace of Westphalia, Europe's history reminds us that peace has been shaped by people who dared to speak up, engage in dialogue and work together.

At our Voices of Peace conference in Münster, representatives of European Heritage Label Sites came together to explore what connects their stories across borders.

Fifty years after the ICMESA accident, our EHL Site, Bosco delle Querce di Seveso e Meda, is looking ahead.

At Milan’s Environmental Sustainability Fair, the exhibition Seveso 2076 invites visitors to explore how environmental memory can inspire the next generation. 🌿
