UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned that the link between armed conflict, violence and hunger is undeniable, with at least 266 million people facing acute food insecurity in 2025. WFP's Acting Executive Director Carl Skau said that disruptions to maritime trade threaten to push tens of millions more people into food insecurity and called for new, bold action to give hundreds of millions of people a path away from hunger and violence, back to peace and stability.

When lives are at risk, the people who come to help should never be targets. Yet humanitarian workers continue to be killed, injured, abducted, detained and obstructed while carrying out their work.

United Nations OCHA reported that at least 326 humanitarian workers were killed across 21 countries in 2025, bringing the number killed over the three-year period to more than 1,000.

The Global Peace Flag transforms discarded fabrics into interconnected canvases, diverting textiles from landfills and giving people worldwide a space to express messages of peace.

In the exhibition Repurposing Fashion, Reimagining Peace, presented at United Nations Headquarters in New York, these canvases take on new life as dresses—bringing together fashion, sustainability, and the universal message of peace.

Organized by Runa Ray on behalf of Fashioning for Social Environmental Justice (FSEJ), the exhibition is endorsed by the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health.
