The BelgianArtPrize is a biennial award for contemporary visual artists living in Belgium.

Founded in 1950, the aim of the BelgianArtPrize has always been to introduce new audiences to the works of our Belgian artists. The BelgianArtPrize is a biennial Award for Contemporary Art open to Belgian and international artists residing in Belgium and to all art disciplines.

Tomorrow 7 October Anouk De Clercq opens a new film installation at STUK in Louvain.

💬 “With Love that Moves the Sun, Anouk De Clercq leads us into a vast forest landscape. Inspired by personal experiences in nature and forests at night all over the world, De Clercq creates a world where darkness unfolds in many shades. It is a haunted but wondrous place: stars drift slowly, meteor showers blaze across the sky, fireflies dance, and animals gather to sing up the sun.”

From October 9, 2026 to January 18, 2027, the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici will be presenting the exhibition ‘Black Sun: Oil and Contemporary Art’.  This new exhibition uses the theme of oil to address the question of artworks in the era of global warming and of our civilization burning. More specifically, the exhibition explores the impact of oil on contemporary artistic practices and on our imaginaries, reshaped by modernity. Conceived as an exploration of the relationships between art and oil, it brings together works that question the way in which the oil industry has determined power dynamics between North and South on the basis of extraction of natural resources, particularly in the postcolonial period.

This Thursday September 17 the exhibition ‘I am not me, the horse is not mine’ by William Kentridge opens Bozar.

‘I am not me, the horse is not mine’ offers a comprehensive overview of his oeuvre from the early 1980s to the present day. Several of his major stage productions receive special attention. The exhibition highlights the performative and collaborative nature of Kentridge’s practice, in which he allows art to evolve into a space for political inquiry, historical reckoning and poetic transformation.

From 10 until 13 September you can enjoy RendezVous Brussels Art Week, an annual celebration of Brussels’ vibrant art scene, bringing together galleries, public institutions, private foundations, auction houses and artist-run initiatives across the city for four days of exhibitions, events, and discursive programs. 
The BelgianArtPrize is proud to present a performance by our SpecialJuryPrize winner Guy Woueté during RendezVous Brussels Art Week.

💬 “For this ‘Performance Without an Audience’ the exhibition space is occupied by a constellation of terracotta bowls, marking the site like receptacles of memory or traces of ritual. Within this geography, three performers move in an obsessive back-and-forth motion, tasked with tearing out and burning the pages of the book ‘Leni Riefenstahl: Africa’ (Taschen, 2006, 2010), which has long contributed to shaping a white gaze entrenched in a position of dominance (…)”.

Until August⁠ 16 you can visit the group exhibition ‘Picture Perfect’ Bozar.
Through lens-based media by 60 artists, the exhibition invites you to reconsider established ideas of beauty and rethink the way we perceive appearances.⁠

Until July 26 you can visit ‘Transhistorytwinpaintology’, a solo exhibition by Xavier Noiret-Thomé Xavier Noiret-Thomé. For this exhibition, curated by Philippe Braem, Xavier took eighteen neologisms that James Joyce scattered across the eighteen chapters of ‘Ulysses’ and transformed them into paintings.   👉 At [bu’ro] desk for contemporary art, Torhoutsesteenweg 49 in Ostend Open on Saturday and Sunday, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and by appointment.

🏆Trip down memory lane fact: Xavier Noiret-Thomé won the Levis Prize for Colour in 2001.
