Empowering Communities Through Positive Psychology: The Lasting Legacy of the HAPPINESS Project

Well-being is increasingly recognised as one of the foundations of resilient, inclusive, and sustainable societies. While traditional approaches often focus on addressing problems after they emerge, Positive Psychology encourages a different perspective: strengthening people’s resources, relationships, and capacities before difficulties arise.

This vision was at the heart of the HAPPINESS – Happiness in Practice Erasmus+ project, an international initiative that demonstrated how emotional well-being can become a powerful driver of community development, social inclusion, and lifelong learning.

Rather than viewing happiness as an individual pursuit, the project promoted a collective understanding of well-being. Through cooperation among partners from different European countries, HAPPINESS created opportunities for adult educators, social workers, trainers, and community members to explore practical methodologies that foster resilience, creativity, empathy, and active participation.

The project combined scientific evidence from Positive Psychology with innovative non-formal education methods, transforming theoretical knowledge into practical tools that can be applied in everyday educational and community settings. Workshops, collaborative learning activities, and creative approaches enabled participants to strengthen interpersonal relationships, improve emotional awareness, and develop greater confidence in facing personal and social challenges. (Projects for Europe)

One of the project’s most significant achievements was its ability to demonstrate that well-being is not merely an individual outcome but a shared responsibility. Communities become stronger when people learn together, support one another, and actively contribute to creating inclusive environments where everyone can flourish.

The legacy of HAPPINESS extends well beyond the duration of the project itself. The methodologies, educational resources, and experiences developed by the partnership continue to inspire organisations working in adult education, community development, and social innovation across Europe. They offer practical examples of how European cooperation can generate sustainable impact by placing people, relationships, and emotional well-being at the centre of educational practice.

In an increasingly complex world, initiatives such as HAPPINESS remind us that investing in human potential is one of the most effective ways to strengthen communities. Emotional resilience, social connectedness, and active citizenship are not secondary objectives—they are essential components of a more cohesive, inclusive, and democratic Europe.

The HAPPINESS project leaves behind more than project results. It leaves a practical model for empowering people through positive psychology, encouraging communities to move beyond simply overcoming challenges and towards creating environments where individuals and societies can genuinely thrive together

Communities flourish when people feel connected, supported and actively involved. This vision has guided HAPPINESS – Positive Psychology & Community

(Projects for Europe)

(Projects for Europe)

🌍 Discover the new SCHOOLWISE website!

We are pleased to share the launch of the official website of SCHOOLWISE – Building Data Wisdom and Governance in Schools for Evidence-Informed Educational Improvement:

🌐 SCHOOLWISE Website https://schoolwise-project.eu/

SCHOOLWISE is an ambitious European initiative dedicated to strengthening data literacy, ethical governance, and evidence-informed decision-making in education.

The project aims to support schools, educators, and educational leaders in navigating the opportunities and challenges of the digital age by promoting:

✅ Responsible and ethical use of educational data
✅ Evidence-informed school improvement
✅ Data literacy for educators and school leaders
✅ Transparent governance frameworks
✅ Innovation in educational decision-making

As educational systems increasingly rely on data and digital technologies, SCHOOLWISE seeks to ensure that data is used not only effectively, but also ethically, inclusively, and in ways that enhance educational quality and equity across Europe.

We invite educators, researchers, policymakers, school leaders, and all stakeholders interested in the future of education to explore the website and follow the project’s journey.

Schools generate more data than ever before, yet many institutions still lack the frameworks, competencies and governance structures needed to use it effectively.
