We have a beautiful mission: we want to cure every child with cancer. By finding new treatments. And thus, they come to the conclusion that they have to act.

KickCancer is the story of a Belgian happily blended family living with humour, love and small daily joys until the frightening day when they are told one of their children, Raphaël, then almost nine, has cancer. A tumour located in the foot called rhabdomyosarcoma – an indigestible name quickly changed into “foot cancer”. It is the story of a family, which faces the first round of treatments with

lousy jokes because it is sometimes best just to laugh and to keep one’s chin up. Of a family, which, after a whole year of chemotherapy, reaches the Holy Grail of complete remission and is headed back to normal life, ready to leave behind, but not to forget, their past misfortune. But it is also the story of a family, which encounters cancer again after two years of respite, with a nasty relapse. Motivated to do more, they embark on an in-depth research effort, learning that all the reassuring innovations one hears about cancer in the news… are for adults only and do not benefit to the children with cancer. Hence the creation of KickCancer!

They are with us at the start line 🏁 running 2, 5 or 10 km, or walking alongside thousands of friends and strangers who show up to support them. They will be the headliner on our podium at the heart of the ceremony.

RUN TO KICK is a day filled with positive, light and moving moments. It offers a sheer dose of hope and solidarity to these families. Because RUN TO KICK is not just a race. It is a community of 5,000 runners and walkers, united for one mission: cure every child with cancer.

Last Tuesday, Delphine Heenen walked into a room full of European policymakers and spoke at the Reimagining Health EU Summit 2026. She made sure no one forgot about the kids. 👊

Two things she put on the table: children are still being treated with old, toxic drugs because the market simply does not work for them. And survival rates for kids with cancer vary by up to 20% across Europe, because where you live determines what care you can access.

Same disease. Different country. Different outcome. This has to change. 🎤

Research is expensive. Research into childhood cancer is urgent. That's why 5,000 runners are uniting at RUN TO KICK on Sunday 27 September in Brussels, and we'd love you to be one of them. Together, we're going for a record: €2.5 million for research.

This year, every euro goes directly into sarcoma research. Sarcomas are the second most difficult childhood cancer to cure. After dedicating RUN TO KICK 2024 to brain tumour research (the most difficult disease area to cure), we're now turning the spotlight on sarcomas. Because these young patients deserve better treatments too.

Every runner commits to raising at least €200 (or €100 for children and students under 25).

Last week, Delphine took part in the official FIGHT KIDS CANCER Selection Meeting. Because research on sarcomas is urgently needed, this year’s call focused on research projects dedicated to paediatric sarcomas 🎗️

Together with an international panel of experts and our partner organisations, we reviewed an incredibly strong response from the scientific community, with 23 translational research applications and 7 clinical trial proposals submitted.

We selected the innovative research projects that are the most promising to improve treatments and outcomes for children and adolescents with cancer. We will share updates about these projects in June, so stay tuned 👀

Every year, 35,000 children in Europe hear the words no family should ever have to hear: your child has cancer.

Childhood cancers are rare by nature. Too rare for the pharmaceutical industry to invest in. Too rare to solve country by country. That's why fighting them takes a European approach: sharing knowledge about patients' cases, pooling data and tissue samples across borders, and funding the most promising research on a European level.
