🎉 IFLA Europe welcomes its newly elected Executive Council members!
We are delighted to announce the election of:

🔹 Dovile Ivanauskiene, representing LALA Lithuania, as the new IFLA Europe Treasurer. Dovilė will succeed John Boon, who will remain Treasurer until the end of the 2026 calendar year to ensure a smooth transition.

🔹 Hicham Karkouch, representing BALA Belgium, as the new IFLA Europe Secretary General. Hicham succeeds Christos Papachristou with immediate effect.

We wholeheartedly welcome Dovilė and Hicham to their new roles and look forward to working with them as we continue strengthening our Federation and advancing landscape architecture across Europe.

We also extend our sincere gratitude to John Boon for four years of dedicated service within the Executive Council and to Christos Papachristou for his commitment and valuable contribution during this crucial year.

Thank you both for your dedication, support and hard work in keeping our Federation strong, connected and moving forward.

IFLA Europe is deeply saddened by the passing of Fernando Caruncho, who left us on 23 August 2026.

We join our Spanish member association, the Asociación Española de Paisajistas (AEP), in mourning one of the most distinguished figures in contemporary Spanish landscape architecture—a practitioner whose work and influence reached far beyond Spain.

A philosopher and self-described gardener, Fernando Caruncho understood the garden as a meeting place between nature, architecture, light, geometry and the deepest dimensions of human experience.

His exceptional ability to interpret the character of a place, together with his constant search for its essence, influenced generations of professionals around the world. His gardens demonstrated that simplicity can contain immense complexity and that rigour can also be a source of emotion and poetry.

Fernando Caruncho leaves a remarkable body of work and a lasting legacy for landscape architecture. His way of contemplating the landscape and the garden will continue to inspire generations to come.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and the international landscape architecture community.

May the light he sought throughout his life continue to live on in the gardens he created.

🌿 IFLA Europe is pleased to launch the third edition of its travelling exhibition: IFLA Europe EXhibition 2026.

Entitled "Reconnecting Landscape", the exhibition will open in Riga on 3 September 2026 during the annual IFLA Europe Delegates’ Meeting.

Featuring 66 projects from 25 countries, the exhibition offers a broad overview of the latest developments in European landscape architecture. It also demonstrates the diverse ways in which the theme of Reconnecting Landscape can be interpreted and translated into practice across Europe.

The selected projects highlight landscape as a design environment with the potential to reconnect ecological, cultural and social threads across multiple levels. Landscape architecture has a unique ability to shape spaces and restore relationships where they have been severed. Through regeneration, adaptation and the renewed use of places, it can reconnect people, spaces and values.

At the heart of the project is the concept of a travelling exhibition. Packaged exhibition materials will be distributed to delegates of IFLA Europe’s National Associations, providing a backdrop for meetings, seminars and discussions on landscape architecture across Europe.

We hope the exhibition will embark on a successful journey and, much like travel itself, create opportunities to exchange knowledge and promote the benefits of a collaborative, responsible and caring approach to our shared—and newly reconnected—spaces.

🌿 Introducing Reconnecting Landscape: The Third IFLA Europe Travelling Exhibition

IFLA Europe is delighted to present the third edition of its travelling exhibition, Reconnecting Landscape, and to introduce the members of the IFLA Europe Exhibition Project Team who have brought this initiative to life.

The exhibition features 66 outstanding landscape architecture projects from 25 countries, generously contributed by IFLA Europe’s member associations. Together, they explore connections across spatial, social and semantic dimensions while showcasing the diversity and richness of contemporary landscape architecture throughout Europe.
