It was a privilege for our Chamber to collaborate with the Philippine Embassy in Belgium and Philippine Trade and Investment Center - Brussels (DTI) on the Policy Dialogue and Business Briefing: Prospects and Pathways towards a Deepening PH-EU Economic Relations 🇵🇭🤝🇪🇺, held at the Press Club Brussels Europe on 1 July.

The discussions brought together policymakers, business leaders, and academia to exchange perspectives on the future of Philippines–European Union economic relations. From navigating an evolving global trade landscape to exploring opportunities in the digital economy, connectivity, and sustainable, inclusive growth, the conversation underscored the immense potential for deeper collaboration.

A sincere thank you to Ambassador Jaime Victor B. Ledda for his leadership, Undersecretary Allan B. Gepty for his insightful keynote and contributions to the panel, António Buscardini for expertly moderating the discussion, and fellow panellists Dr. Marcelo Leporati and Hibiki Kimura from respectively our corporate members UBI Business School and the international law firm Nishimura & Asahi for sharing their valuable perspectives.

The exchange reaffirmed that meaningful dialogue between government, business, and academia is essential to translating shared ambitions into concrete partnerships and opportunities.

Bridging Digital Economies: ASEAN DEFA × Dutch Digital Economy

Senior representatives from government, the diplomatic community, business, bilateral chambers of commerce, and the innovation ecosystem gathered on 22 June at the Embassy of the Philippines in The Hague for this joint initiative of the Philippine Trade and Investment Center - Brussels (DTI), Philippine Embassy in The Netherlands and ASEANcham EU.

Hosted by Trade Counsellor Maggie Misolas-Ashley, the programme featured keynote presentations by Sherylyn Marie Aquia, ASEAN SEOM Chair and Director of the Bureau of International Trade Relations, Department of Trade and Industry (Philippines) and Annemarie van der Heijden, Head of the South Asia and Southeast Asia Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands.

As part of her visit to the Netherlands, Sherylyn Marie Aquia shared insights into the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA). As ASEAN's first region-wide Digital Economy Framework Agreement, DEFA aims to create a trusted, secure, and interoperable digital ecosystem across a market of nearly 680 million people, with the ambition of doubling the region's digital economy to US$2 trillion by 2030.

The keynote presentations were followed by a panel discussion featuring Sherylyn Marie Aquia and ShivaPrasad M., CEO & Founder of TelcoSolve, moderated by Marco de Jong, Founder & CEO of Euralinx and Advisory Board Member of ASEANCham EU and accompanied by our External Relations Associate Aäron Prins.

The discussions underscored the shared ambition to strengthen trusted digital trade, innovation, and ASEAN–EU digital connectivity.

Lurdes Bessa, Ambassador of the newest ASEAN member state Timor-Leste during a coordination meeting for many upcoming events to promote her country within ASEAN to the 6 EU member states under her jurisdiction from Brussels 🇹🇱🫱🏼‍🫲🏻🇪🇺

Another meaningful day to strengthen the ASEAN - EU relations, we are very proud being the close partner of the ASEAN missions in Brussels to co-organize the upcoming forum on the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA) with the Philippine Embassy in Belgium on the 1st July, together with our corporate member Nishimura & Asahi and also to attend the Indonesia–EU CEPA Strategic Business Luncheon, "From Negotiation to Opportunity: Unlocking the Full Potential of the IEU-CEPA" organized by the Embassy of Indonesia KBRI Brussel.

Mr Andy Rachmianto. We had also the occasion to introduce one of our succesful corporate members in the defence sector, active in Souhtheast Asia🫱🏼‍🫲🏻
