Two inspiring engagements on gender equality in the energy sector over the past days ⚡

As part of our continued commitment to advancing gender equality in the energy sector, CEER recently participated in two important initiatives.

At the 9th meeting of the Equality Platform last week, hosted by the European Commission and the Florence School of Regulation, discussions focused on delivering the Citizens Energy Package through an equality lens.

🗝 Key takeaway: An effective equality lens in the Citizens Energy Package means ensuring that policy instruments start from people’s real-life conditions and do not assume access to resources, networks, digital skills or risk tolerance that vulnerable groups may not have.

In a second engagement, this week CEER contributed to a GatE workshop on “Designing a Gender-Inclusive Green Energy Transition: EU policy alignment."

We are also excited that CEER will host the next Equality Platform meeting during Autumn 2026 in Brussels!

Yesterday, we closed our EU4Energy Phase III (CEER) and CEER Training Academy Regional Training "Unlocking Flexibility for a Clean Energy Future!" Over two days in Brussels, experts, regulators and policymakers from the EU and Eastern Partnership countries came together to exchange best practices on integrating renewable energy and building future-proof electricity systems.

A special thank you to our speakers from CEER, ENTSO-E, ACER, Energiavirasto, Smart Energy Europe, ARERA and Energy Storage Europe Association for sharing their expertise and practical experience — and of course to all participants whose active engagement made this training truly worthwhile.

🎤 At , CEER Secretary General Bram Claeys is joining the discussion on how cities and distribution system operators can work together to drive the local energy transition (9:30-11:00 CEST).

As Mr Claeys highlighted, the regulators have an important facilitating role in ensuring that grid development plans are delivered efficiently, fairly and in line with public policy goals. He also stressed the importance of sharing best practices across Europe and creating incentives for innovative solutions, including demand-side flexibility.

The discussion explores how stronger city-DSO cooperation can support electrification, resilient local energy systems and more strategic energy planning for Europe's cities.

A week ago, the CEER Secretariat took some time to step back, reflect on the priorities set out in the CEER Strategy 2026-2029, and discuss the role we all play in delivering them. Watch our retreat highlights in the video below! 🎥

On 30 June, we will continue that conversation with the wider energy community at the CEER Annual Conference 2026.

Under the theme "United in Regulation: National Authorities, European Impact", the conference will focus on the practical realities of energy regulation: how to strengthen regional cooperation without losing sight of national circumstances, how to support investment in the grids and infrastructure needed for the transition, and how to ensure that affordability remains at the centre of the discussion.

At the heart of these discussions are CEER's strategic priorities:
⚡ Optimising market-oriented solutions,
👥 Empowering and protecting consumers,
🌱 Deepening the integration of a decarbonised energy system.

Much like CEER Secretariat retreat discussions, the conference is an opportunity to exchange perspectives, learn from one another and explore how we can work together to turn these priorities into practical action for the benefit of European energy consumers.
