At yesterday's Trilateral Workshop on Consumers, ECRB, MEDREG and CEER colleagues met in Milan 📍 to explore challenges and solutions for consumers in the evolving energy sector. The discussions were focused on three main topics:

1️⃣ How National Regulatory Authorities can transition from traditional, reactive oversight to "RegTech" (Regulatory Technology), using AI to proactively shield consumers from harmful commercial practices

2️⃣ Bridging the gap between regulation and the lived experience of citizens by using narrative-based analysis to identify where current frameworks succeed or fail in solving real-world energy issues

3️⃣ Strengthening Regulatory Frameworks to Shield Consumers during Times of Crises

Two days, endless insight and one shared mission: ensuring a fair energy transition for all ⚡️

We just concluded the CEER Training on Consumer and Energy Poverty & Vulnerability. For this special open edition, we had the privilege of bringing together an incredible mix of participants - not only from National Regulatory Authorities, but also dedicated experts from academia and NGOs.

From legal frameworks and indicators to energy sharing and the fossil gas phase-out, every session was fueled by highly prepared, passionate, and participative attendees.

Key takeaways from our sessions:

What happens to renewables once support schemes end? ♻️

CEER's updated Report on Unsupported Renewables finds that legal frameworks have yet to adapt. Larger installations are likely to turn to the market or PPAs, smaller ones to self-consumption and decommissioning remains a serious option.

📊 The coming years will show whether and how Member Countries respond as more capacity leaves support. The regulators' data is published alongside the report for your own energy regulation analysis.
