About the Speaker:
Alenka Le Compte is Mediawijs’ Focal Point for Digital Inclusion. She coordinates a number of networks and meetings in Flanders, such as the e-Inclusion Taskforce, which brings together public players, non-profit organisations and academics. In this webinar, she will delve into Digi Buddies, an initiative bridging the digital divide in Flanders by training professionals to work with low-skilled or vulnerable groups.

We're very thankful to have been part of the All Digital General Assembly, which also marked the official beginning of !

A huge thanks to All Digital for inviting us and to Mediawijs, Microsoft 365, European Commission, VUB - Vrije Universiteit Brussel, District09, CABAN Network, Bantani Education - among others - for their invaluable insights on local and regional approaches to digital inclusion.

As repeatedly said throughout the event, a collective approach is fundamental in order to close or at least reduce the Digital Divide. Joint efforts around digital skills should continue beyond the , as stated by Ana Carrero, with European Commission’s commitment to initiatives implementation in the next years.

Let's continue valuing cross-sectoral collaboration to foster the power of digital skills and innovation & driving positive change in our societies!

We are delighted to have attended the “Investing in Skills in Europe's regions and cities Conference” organized by the European Committee of the Regions and the European Commission.

Exploring the profound impact of upskilling and reskilling on local and regional development was eye-opening!

As Vasco Alves Cordeiro , President of the CoR, emphasized, "44% of Europeans lack basic digital skills - therefore, comprehensive digital skills training across all age groups, socio-economic spheres, and professional backgrounds is required." The aim is to ensure that 60% of Europeans participate in digital skills training yearly!

Dragoș Pîslaru, MEP, European Parliament EMPL Chair, highlighted the importance of viewing the as a starting point. "We need to invest in upskilling and reskilling to push for social policy in the EU," he emphasized. Moreover, recognizing that "skills are created at the local level," he pointed out the necessity for investments on a regional and local scale. Public-private partnerships are crucial in this endeavor.

Let's continue advocating for basic digital skills to be prioritised also in regional and local agendas, for a brighter, more inclusive future! 🚀

About the Speaker:
Dr Alicja Pawluczuk (aka HYSTERA) is a multidisciplinary artist and digital inequalities researcher whose practice intertwines art, community engagement, and academia. Her artistic practice explores the interplay between research and creative interventions for social change. By embracing participatory, intersectional, and experimental approaches, she aims to create spaces, communities, and artworks that challenge boundaries and spark meaningful conversations. Her work is grounded in her lived experiences of invisible disability, neurodivergence, and peripheral whiteness as an Eastern European migrant. She currently works as a Research Fellow at INCLUDE+ Network | University of Leeds and she is a co-founder of Endo Violence Collective and founder of Digital Beez.

In this Lightning Talk, the speaker will delve into the roles of participatory art and experiential learning in digital equity community practice and research.
