Giving Asian voices a platform in Flanders to connect with their roots, fellow Asians and share it with the world. Hey daar!

"What would it feel like to become humus together? To take the parts of ourselves that feel scattered, uprooted, or far from home, and slowly, communally, turn them into something rich and alive?" -Ploy Thongchamnan

Ploy Thongchamnan (they/them), a product designer specializing in bio-art is warmly inviting us to participate in their project, Become Humus. This project weaves together participatory art, the Asian community, and sustainability.

Please swipe to find the details about the three workshops. It is not mandatory to attend all three workshops to be part of the project. If you feel drawn and interested to take part as workshop participant, photographer, or helping hand behind the scenes, please send your name, email address, and pronouns to UAS or [email protected].

SAVE THE DATE: UAS BOOKCLUB KICKOFF AND CREATIVE WORKSHOP
(registration form will follow soon)

Following our previous bookclub editions, we wanted to continue fostering these moments of tender reflection.

Join us on July 25 in Ghent for a warm and creative gathering.

This time, we will explore “Dust Child” from Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai .
“Đời gió bụi, De geheimen van de bodhiboom, Là où fleurissent les cendres”

When Trang, a young Vietnamese woman, falls in love with an American pilot Dan, secrets unfold that will echo across decades. Their son Phong grows up as a "dust child", an Amerasian child caught between cultures, searching for recognition and belonging.

Together, we will reflect on themes of searching for identity, war’s legacy, adoption, intergenerational trauma, racism, forgiveness, and the search for connection across borders.

This bookclub is open for people with Asian heritage from across the continent.

Yesterday was a historic moment. The psychologist of the year award went to .ama.kissi, who won the prize with her book ‘White care, black suffering: why mental health fails for people of color’. As individuals with a migration background, she explains in the book why a therapeutic space never can be neutral. Thank you and also the other guest speakers for the enlightening evening. 🫶

We are excited to welcome you to our next potluck. This time we are meeting in Ghent!

We try to organize one every other month on Saturdays from 12pm, hosted by one of our community member or a public space.

Everyone can bring their favorite veggie or vegan dish(es) and we’ll share our food the Asian way. 💚

Registration is official when you receive a confirmation mail from us. That will be sent about 1 week beforehand and will include the address as well.
