The program funds 15 new fellows with up to 115,000 euros for up to 24 months. • Be employed by a public research institution in Germany by the start of the project

🔐 International researchers, just as well as any German, might need the AusweisApp to provide legally valid digital proof of identity. It enables you to verify your identity online with German authorities, universities and institutions, allowing you to carry out administrative procedures efficiently, from any location and without the need for paper or in-person appointments.

🪪 The AusweisApp website tells you what you need to successfully use the eID function and where you might need the app. Find out on their website how you can download the app and what suitable smartphones, tablets as well as compatible USB card readers are.

The Chair of Political Theory is seeking to fill two doctoral positions in the project “Disinformation, Democracy and Epistemic Breakdown”. This project investigates how disinformation can undermine trust in fellow citizens, the media, science, and political institutions. It focuses on how perceived manipulative intent at the individual level may develop into broader dynamics of distrust and epistemic breakdown in democratic societies. The project combines political theory and normative democratic theory with agent-based modelling. Its findings will also be translated into an interactive web-based educational tool for schools and the wider public.

🧑‍🎓Your profile:

Applicants should have:

- an excellent university degree at Master’s level or equivalent in political science, , , , or a related discipline

- a strong interest in democracy, disinformation, political epistemology, and social trust

- excellent command of English

- the ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team

The project is ideally seeking two complementary profiles:

- For one position: candidates with a strong background in political theory, political philosophy, or normative democratic theory, combined with a clear affinity for formal and computational methods. - For the second position: candidates with programming experience and, ideally, prior experience in agent-based modelling, combined with a strong interest in political and democratic theory. Familiarity with NetLogo or comparable simulation environments is particularly welcome.
