The Great Transformation 2020-2030

09/09/2024

Join us on Sunday the 15th of September for a walk through the valley of Molenbeek. Discover the paths where rivers once flowed and learn about the area’s historical relationship with water. We’ll explore how nature thrives in the midst of a dense urban landscape. As part of MolenFest 2024, we will explore the neighbourhood’s natural systems and discuss how they can be a leverage to create and envision Future Places for Molenbeek.

Let’s celebrate Molenbeek’s candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2030 together by revealing the hidden potential of the green-blue infrastructure.

Many professional sectors are facing major changes. Not only technological changes will have a major impact on how we will learn and work in the future, but also how we live together and collaborate is changing rapidly and (sometimes) radically. That is why we need new ways of learning and working to meet the societal challenges with new talent and new jobs. Do you want to co-construct how we learn and work in 2050? Every local government will develop and set out an action plan in the coming years to make all homes in its territory emission-free by 2050. But what are the concrete projects, support and policies to achieve this transition? How can governments, businesses, citizens and organisations work together? Join us, together with a group of experts, on the 18th of March to learn more about the practical building blocks that policymakers, entrepreneurs or citizen’s initiatives can use to start the energy transition in their own neighbourhood. On Monday 5 December we will delve into the quest for affordable land, together with landscape developer Griet Celen (Vlaamse Landmaatschappij (VLM)). In two conversational exchanges between agricultural developers on the one hand and residential developers on the other, we will explore various forms of ownership, design, management, and usage of land in relation to accessible and affordable food lands. Alternative housing models and urban developments, as seen in PREFIGURATIONS, will serve as tangible examples for possible transformations – the maquettes of Paddenbroek and CLT Brussels that were featured in the exhibition will serve as conversation enhancers.

Not only were our tales on transformation told by our human guides the past few months, but the printed exhibition guide also took you along prefigurations of our societies, neighbourhoods and landscapes.

Some of you took a copy home, to colleagues, to family and friends. The tales are now ready to live their own lives. You can browse the booklet yourself and get carried away by the narratives told and be surprised by the projects involved. It can be found in English, French and Dutch: https://degroteverbouwing.eu/en/calendar/exhibition+prefigurations/ (change the language in the menu on the left).
