Let's clean up Brussels together! Join us for our cleanup next Tuesday, 25 August at 13:30, starting at the Molenbeek lock. Book your spot now via the City to Ocean website!

It's free, for all ages, and fun is guaranteed! During the walk, we'll collect trash and share insights about Brussels' waterways. We'll also photograph the waste we find and discover which types of trash are most common on the streets of Brussels.

We had something else in mind when we chose the motto: Clean and GREEN waterways.

Algae are taking over the Brussels canal, and because of this all our kayaking activities have to be put on pause.

The long, dry, and hot weather, combined with organic pollution and the stagnating canal water, makes algae proliferate every summer.

We can change this, and we are convinced that we can have healthy waterways all year round when we take good care of them. Follow our updates on how to get there!

Our kayak cleanup season runs until the end of October! That's still two and a half months to jump in! Grab your colleagues, your friends or your students, and come fish trash out of the Brussels canal with us. All the info is on our website.

During the hottest days of June, we had colleagues joining in from Mastercard, Euroclear, Cooley, Air Liquide, Otto Creatives, Nestlé, Edenred-Belgium the EhB - Erasmushogeschool Brussel. We also had groups of friends, and people who became friends by joining, plus a group from les chemins de l'utopie.

Taking care of nature starts with getting to know it and enjoying it, and that's exactly what all these people did in June. They laughed, learnt and paddled on the Brussels Canal.

A big thank you to the international students from CAS Trips, the students from Buso, and colleagues from WGC De Brug/MM La Passerelle, De Watergroep, Protime, Vlaamse Overheid, Rotaract, Vlaams Energiebedrijf - veb, Agentschap Integratie en Inburgering, SPF Santé publique, Sécurité de la Chaîne alimentaire et Environnement et SPF Finances, Nestlé, Pernod Ricard, Renewi and Jump naar Werk , for joining us!

We are surrounded by crises that didn’t happen by accident. Forests are burning, the climate is changing, the ice is melting, and the oceans are filling up with plastic waste.

And if you listen to Big Industry, it’s all your fault: people are the ones creating plastic litter, people are the ones demanding more and more oil, and people are the ones fueling the throwaway society by buying the disposable items that shops keep on presenting.

Don’t be fooled by this rhetoric. For the sake of growth and profit, Big Industry will continue producing all these things you don’t need while advertising its way into your lives.

Stand up, resist, and push back. Another future is possible.

Do you ever get annoyed by all that plastic you bring home from the supermarket ?
We went to our closest supermarket to audit the packaging. Zucchini, apples, bell peppers and tomatoes were all covered in plastic.
Doing a Supermarket Audit is very easy. It takes 15 minutes. You walk the aisles, count the plastic and write down what you find. And it actually holds supermarkets accountable for what they're selling. Data is power. đź’Ş
You can participate until July 31. Read about the details of the 2026 worldwide Supermarket Audit in the link below and go audit a supermarket in your neighborhood. https://www.breakfreefromplastic.org/supermarket-audit/

They see me rolling, they hate it, ... but we are here to make it stop!

City to Ocean and Port de Bruxelles - Haven van Brussel are looking for change makers to adopt one or more Waste Bumpers to reduce waste in the canal, from the city to the sea. You can adopt 0,5 m of Waste Bumpers for 29€ and 1 m for 59€. And from 40€ upwards we can provide a tax certificate for a 30% tax reduction.

We need your help to stop plastic pollution. Go to our website through the link in bio or beneath and adopt a Waste Bumper. It takes only 1 or 2 minutes!

In May, we had many students and youth join us on the Brussels canal. We’ve had some moving discussions about the impact we can have as citizens with all the resist, refuse, reuse, repair, reduce and recycle actions we take to reduce pollution but also about what actually needs to change on a systemic level.

Students were from the Koninklijk Atheneum Koekelberg, taalkot, De l'Autre Côté de l'Ecole, Institut des Filles de Marie - Saint-Gilles, Maria-Boodschaplyceum, EhB - Erasmushogeschool Brussel, L'Institut de la Vierge Fidèle, Universiteit Leiden, Campus de L'Arbre qui Pousse, CVO Semper en CVO Brussel and scouts. Colleagues from Groot Eiland, ConsomAction, Serco Europe, BlackRock and Rotary International also joined!

NB: The all-time record has been broken. One kayak fished out 20,5 kg of trash in 40 minutes.
