Many thanks Anju Anna John, GC Europe ( ) alumna, for sharing your insights from the recent 29th Lisbon Forum on “Human Rights, Environment, and Economic Crimes: Youth the Forefront".
Anju, who’s conducting research on intersectional climate justice at Deusto University, was invited to participate by the Forum organiser, the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe.

“The Lisbon Forum was an invaluable platform for connecting with individuals dedicated to addressing climate change and economic crimes. It allowed me to gain insights into youth-led initiatives and connect with potential contacts for my research on climate justice issues.”

Read her contribution on the GC website and keep in touch with the GCA as we engage our network in various activities!

Meet and connect with Kristina Eger from .
“In India, more than 90% of construction workers are informal workers and more than 50% of these are women. I hope to improve OSH in India, especially for informal and women workers. I work on promoting occupational safety and health (OSH) in the Indian construction sector”.

A new idea that I recently learnt and that changed how I see my human rights career is that children can be the best human rights ambassadors when it comes to occupational safety and health (OSH). When promoting OSH in kindergartens, we found out that children not only developed a safety mindset, but also shared it with their families, therewith reaching the workforce more powerfully than our training.

This is what being a Global Campus Alumna means to me: being connected, supported, inspired.

Currently, I am working in the field of business & human rights and would therefore be very interested to connect with people working in this field.”

The Global Campus is proud to announce the publication of the first GC awarded thesis (academic year 2020/21) written in Arabic language by Rawad Bara titled Cinema as a Tool for Human Rights Education and Reconciliation in Post-conflict Communities, the Lebanese Cinema and the Civil War as a Case Study.

“Through the Arab Master in Democracy and Human Rights program, I found my passion in using cinema as a powerful tool for human rights and reconciliation advocacy. My thesis journey was a profound exploration, allowing me to merge my love for arts and films with a commitment to making a positive impact. It was a personal and academic milestone, one that truly exemplified the program's mission and my dedication to promoting justice and fostering positive change.”

Calls for Applications: Directors and Hosts of Regional Academic Freedom Coalitions

Scholars at Risk (SAR) has issued calls for applications for Regional Director and Host Institution roles that will lead and support regional coalitions that organize and execute academic freedom promotion and advocacy activities in Africa (October 4 deadline), the Americas (in partnership with the Coalition for Academic Freedom in the Americas; October 1 deadline), and Southeast Asia (October 1 deadline).

These regional coalitions will build community and solidarity around a unifying cause, design and lead responsive and proactive advocacy efforts, and link up with other regional and international groups, networks, and institutions in ways that bolster a stronger global movement to safeguard academic freedom. SAR encourages applications from individuals and institutions in higher education and human rights that wish to take on leading roles in academic freedom advocacy and movement-building.

If you have any questions about the application calls or would like to recommend candidates, please contact Daniel Munier, SAR's Program Manager for Regional Coalitions. ([email protected]).

Meet and connect with Erjola Shaka from .

Erjola, who also holds an MA in Gender and Women's Studies, teaches young people emotional and physical self-defense and empowering techniques: “the goal is to prevent violence, to know how to react in situations of assault and immediate violence, how to set healthy boundaries and build healthy relationships… prevention is better than intervention!” She trains teachers who then develop extracurricular programmes on these topics in high schools in Albania.

Erjola is interested in connecting with people on gender issues, human rights, nationalism and state building processes: https://lnkd.in/dMqnnSuq
