During our event on April 7th, World Health Day 🌍, our moderator, Niels Piette, asked the crowd to raise their hands if they had ever struggled in life, if they had ever gone through a difficult time.

Basically, the whole room raised their hand ✋.

The easiest guarantee you can give someone in life is this: life will be hard at times. You will face struggles and hardship.

I like to remind myself, whenever I look at someone, that behind those eyes is a person who has fought, or might still be fighting, a battle I know nothing about.

It often leads me to feel more connected to that person and more empathetic toward them, even if we have just met and I know nothing about their story yet.

And while hardship and struggle are not exactly fun to go through, if we can raise our hands a bit more toward each other in daily life, they can become powerful doors that lead to deeper and more meaningful connections with others.

Special thanks to Humgy Coworking and LUX visual storytellers for helping make this event possible.

A few days ago, we at Inner Path Seekers hosted our first big in-person event around mental health, together with the Red Cross.

We know (or at least many of us do) that CPR can save lives. It actually saved mine when I had my sudden cardiac arrest. 🫀

But something we often don’t realize is that honesty, checking in with others, taking time for someone, truly listening, and asking questions without judgment, can also save lives.

From my time as a volunteer at the su***de hotline, I learned that there are many things we say that we think are helpful, but actually aren’t.

Such as:

- Minimizing: “Well, it’s not that bad.”
- Premature positivity: “Everything happens for a reason.”
- Comparative reassurance: “Oh, I totally understand what you are going through.”
- Forced gratitude or reframing: “Be grateful for what you have.”
- Problem-solving too early: “Here’s what I would do.”

These are things we all do. I catch myself doing them too. But they don’t help someone feel truly understood and seen.

During calls, 90% of the time is spent simply understanding the person, sitting with them in the darkness, and being there without judgment.

Emotionally supporting someone is a very underdeveloped skill for many of us, yet one that can truly save lives.

The event included a panel discussion with Dr. Catthoor (a psychiatrist), myself, and a testimony from someone who struggled, followed by an introductory workshop from the Red Cross on First Aid for Psychological Problems.

Mental health is still stigmatized, and there is a lot of work to be done. But I am deeply grateful to everyone who showed up and to those willing to face difficult emotions and sit with the emotions of others instead of avoiding them. Because of you, we are taking steps forward in normalizing mental health, learning how to better be there for one another, and reducing unnecessary suffering.

A special thank you to the sponsors, partners, and speakers who made this event possible: LUX visual storytellers, Humgy Coworking, Red Cross, Joke Sas, Niels Piette, and Dr. Catthoor. Thank you all for being there and for helping to further normalize mental health.

For nearly 10 years, Dr. Judith Grisel was a daily drug user.
She dropped out of school multiple times — and was even homeless.

Today? She’s an internationally recognized neuroscientist and professor. 🧠

In this first episode of our addiction series, she shares both the science and the reality of addiction.

I deeply value conversations like this: where expertise meets lived experience.

Her story is proof that addiction doesn’t have to define you and that your future can hold far more than you might see right now.

Hi everyone,

I’m currently preparing a new episode in our addiction series, and this one will be very practical.

I’ll be speaking with Kevin Cornelius, M.A., a certified TEAM-CBT therapist.

TEAM-CBT — developed by Dr. David D. Burns — is an evidence-based therapeutic approach.

Unlike many traditional approaches, TEAM-CBT places strong emphasis on motivation and “outcome resistance” — meaning we’ll explore why people sometimes don’t fully want to give up addictive behaviors, even when they suffer because of them.

If you have a question about addiction — whether from personal experience or professional curiosity — you can simply drop them down below.

I’ll bring selected questions directly into the conversation.

Looking forward to receiving your questions,

Jellis

Addiction is rarely about pleasure. More often, it begins as relief from pain.

In our upcoming series, we focus on addiction—exploring this complex topic through both science and lived experience 🧠❤️. Multiple professionals will be invited, as well as people who have dealt with addiction themselves. We’ll talk about trauma, stress, loneliness, the brain—and what recovery actually looks like beyond stereotypes and shame. 🌱

Our first episode features Dr. Judith Grisel 🎙️📘 — neuroscientist, author, and someone who understands addiction from both sides: as a researcher and through lived experience.

Be sure to follow Inner Path Seekers on YouTube or your favorite podcast app so you don’t miss the first conversation. 🔔

As the year comes to an end, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on some of the things we did here at Inner Path Seekers — the highlights of 2025, what’s ahead in 2026, and to hear from you about how we can do better and what you’d like to see more of. ✨

Besides sharing the highlights and what’s to come, I care deeply about making Inner Path Seekers better — and I want to do that together with you.

Therefore, I’ve created a short, anonymous feedback form where you can share what’s been helpful, what could be improved, and what you’d like to see next. 📝

You can fill in the form here 👉 https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSepF1h_mmqLWovO4h085jLQOy33zksnwDbXcFHTXpbc2oTO0A/viewform?usp=header

Best holiday wishes to you all 🎄✨ And see you again in 2026. 🌟

If there are any thoughts, feelings, or behaviors you’d like to see changed that are getting in the way of the ones you desire, and you haven’t checked out my course ‘Healing Yourself Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)’ yet, then now—during Black Friday week, with the massive discount—is the best time ever to take a look.

As a therapist, I’ve worked with many people, and many of the theories and practical exercises I explain and teach in the course are the same ones I use with clients.

Here is some of what you will learn:

- Learn from a therapist how to correctly use practices from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
- Master powerful techniques and tools, like the chain analysis, to help you through tough times
- Discover what harmful core beliefs are and which ones you have
- Learn how to turn your harmful beliefs into healthy beliefs
- Discover why you are so triggered by certain things people say or do
- Learn how to work through psychological wounds and problems, and how to effectively be there for yourself
- Understand what neurogenesis and neuroplasticity are, and how psychotherapy can positively impact both
- Discover not only CBT practices, but also systems to apply them in your life

So far, we have 604 students and a general rating of 4.7/5 ⭐️. I’ve dedicated a lot of time and energy to this course to make it fun, insightful, and worth your time — and it seems that many students have truly found the course helpful.

You can read more about the course, check out free preview lessons, and read reviews and ratings here: https://www.udemy.com/course/healing-yourself-through-cognitive-behavioral-therapy-cbt/?couponCode=BLACKFRIDAY2025

And, if you like what you see, I’d be thrilled to welcome you in the first lesson.

Learn with a therapist using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, an evidence-based psychotherapy, to heal yourself.

Over the past months, I sat down with people who’ve lost someone very dear to them — and with a grief professional who has spent years walking beside those who are dying. I also shared parts of my own story of losing my dad at age four.

Across all these conversations, despite the different stories, ages, and circumstances, the common threads were unmistakable. 💛
In this post, I’m sharing some of those threads.

I’d also like to thank Phil Cohen, Laura Maliszewska, Frank Watkinson, and Bridget Sumser for sharing their stories and insights in our series on loss and grief.

These conversations reminded me how deeply human grief is, how invisible it often becomes, and how important it is to bring it into the light. 🕯️

You can find the full grief series on our YouTube channel and podcast — just search Inner Path Seekers.
