🩺 Join SCI Bangladesh's Medical Camp in Rangabali, a disaster-prone area where every year inhabitants face severe cyclones, tornados and floods.

SCI-Bangladesh has been working with these distressed communities through an integrated approach for the last 3 decades. As a remote rural area, it has no primary medical service for the inhabitants. Under this backdrop SCI-Bangladesh, with the financial support of SCI-Japan, has established SCI Mother and Child Care Center to provide basic and primary medical service to women and children. 🤱

🌱 Volunteers who join this project will contribute to 10 days of tree planting, gardening, painting and 2 days of free medical service camp in the medical centre.

🪧 From a militarised society during apartheid, a strong nonviolent movement emerged in South Africa, with different segments of society coming together to refuse conscription and propose alternatives that build real peace. ☮️ This is where volunteering comes into play and realises its full potential for peacebuilding.

With this remarkable and positive lesson from South Africa, we conclude our series for the international day of nonviolence.

Civilian service, the alternative option to military service, is not a fair option when it is made complicated, lengthy and costly. 🎯 And that is why it is often a target by countries that are seeking to strengthen their military, such as Switzerland and Austria, where conscription is still mandatory.
🤝SCI in these countries joined other NGOs to criticise these changes and act to protect civilian service.

🧠 Militarism starts in the mind, and Belgium and France know it! That is why their governments are pushing a narrative that is favourable to re-militarisation and making the military more appealing through paid volunteering schemes. 💶

Peace organisations know this too, and are organising events to propose nonviolent alternatives and keep the narrative of peace alive.
