Humasol vzw

Humasol vzw Renewable energy and sustainable technology for all Our aim is to expand our reach to all institutes of higher education in Belgium.

It is Humasol’s strategy to keep excelling at our current core activities and to further increase our impact on the generation of renewable energy. Our strategy is built on the following cornerstones:

We believe that we currently have an effective and professional organization, but we feel it is essential to keep improving herein. Our organization consists of volunteers, and having an effective

organization is essential to keep the high motivation of our members and board. We are currently recruiting from a total of five institutes of higher education in Belgium in order to select the most talented and motivated project students. Humasol wants to work on sustainable impact with our partners. Thus, long-term collaborations with them are crucial to obtain goal and we will continue to work with our current partners. Past experiences have shown that follow-up projects are needed to ensure sustainability of our installed machines. In addition, Humasol will continue to explore opportunities with new partners as this will allow us to further expand. Humasol currently receives material and financial support from a variety of companies. In the future, Humasol wants to strengthen this relationship, to engage these companies even more in the projects it is carrying out. Furthermore, Humasol wants to further diversify its portfolio of funding. A balanced distribution of funds from public institutions, the general public and companies is necessary to ensure the financial health of our organization and to provide the means for further expansion. In the future, we hope to continue to grow. We are streamlining our internal organization to ensure a high degree of professionalism. We want to become involved in more projects while trying to guarantee the successful completion of all projects.

🎓The Green Malata Entrepreneurial School allows students to learn a trade, like cooking, welding or carpentry, which gives them more chances on the job market. However, the campus frequently experiences blackouts and high electricity bills. So, last summer Elias Vissers, Kamil Janssen, Kiki Schouwstra en Lucas Gheldof travelled to Malawi to build a small scale wind turbine and a solar panel installation 🛠️. This installation currently provides a restaurant, an office and an IT center with sustainable energy all night long.⚡

🙏 Thank you to our partner Children’s Fund Malawi and our sponsors Umicore, gemeente Kasterlee and Abdij der Trappisten van Westmalle for making this project possible!

Last summer, Manou, Cara, Nicolaas, and María traveled to Tingo María, Peru, to collaborate on a more sustainable packaging solution for chocolate 🍫🌱

Together with their partners, they developed an innovative chocolate packaging made from cacao husks and other agricultural waste. The result? A working prototype with barrier properties as strong as plastic and an optimized production process. 💪

This project wouldn’t have been possible without strong collaborations with Niva Organics, the Peruvian Social Incubator (TPSI), CITE, and the National University of Agriculture (UNAS). Beyond the lab work and prototype testing, the team built lasting connections, and still misses the weekly football matches with the professors ⚽️🤩

Our very first 24 urenloop ever! 💪

Thanks to everyone’s amazing energy and hard work, we finished in 13th place with 848 laps! Not bad for a newcomer right? 🤩 24 hours long, we showed our dedication, speed, and most of all, highlighted our Humasol mission. 🌍⚡️

Huge shoutout to all our runners and people behind the scenes for making it happen! 🧡

And a special shoutout to our neighbour for crushing records and highlighting a very important cause. ❤️‍🩹
