Mission Stray Sri Lanka

Mission Stray Sri Lanka Mission Stray Sri lanka is a Belgian registrated charity (regno 0783.347.749). All money raised goes to better the lives of these animals in full.

We are NOT a shelter, our focuss stays on birth control due to spay/neuter programs Mission stray Sri Lanka is a Belgian registrated charity (reg.no 0783.347.749) to help stray & owned dogs/cats in the south west of Sri lanka. With an estimated number of 3 million stray dogs and many cats roaming the streets often struggling to survive and not finding proper homes, we decided that our prior missio

n is to: spay/neuter/vaccinate (and treat). We ONLY provide free vaccinations to owners of dogs/cats who got their pet spay/neutered or are willing to do so via our mission, free of charge. Spay/neuter is still the most humane way to end the suffering that has been going on for ages. We are not a shelter nor veterinarian clinic, but because of the need to prevent, diagnose and treat, we (want to) work together with veterinarians who can set standards high enough. UPDATE: as we didn't get any reply on finding a courier to take this valuable medicins from Europe to Sri Lanka, we decided to send this parcel to an amazing rescuer, Aggeliki Koussidou, in Greece. I'm sure Agge will make full use of it for the benefit of the Greek stray dogs and cats :)

IMPORTANT Question: is there anyone from Belgium or nearby countries like Holland, Germany, France... traveling to Sri Lanka this year and still has some place in their luggage to take these valuable medicins? I preferably like to donate this medicines to dr Nayomi from Healthy Pets Animal Clinic who works together with us in the area of Matara (Madiha or Dickwella) or to Shilpa of Tails of Freedom (Colombo area)... If you can help us to help them, please get in touch with us ASAP.
Thanks in advance ☺️

For those who ever travelled to Greece will remember this country has lots of stray cats. Most are not spay/neutered and struggle to survive. Many get virusses like cats' flu: this herpesvirus often results in cats getting severe damages to their eyes (conjunctivitis), mouth ulcers (very painful!), upper tract respiratory infections .... This herpesviruses can spread very fast amongst unvaccinated cats. Except for female cats giving litter after litter, male cats fighting eachother (and getting infected wounds), cat related diseases ..., many cats also struggle to find food. Thankfully i saw some Greek locals giving food and water, but many leave the island once the tourist season ends. During the months from june till september cats will find more food around restaurants. And if they're lucky, they'll find 'fools' like me who go around with cat food through the streets every day :)
As i saw so many cats on the island of Thassos, i couldn't really do prevention that would make a big difference, but I did get one female cat sterilised: she was 11 months old and had 4 kittens. While she was still lactating, she already got pregant again. The vet in Thassos agreed with spaying her. I hope to get the 4 kittens spay/neutered around september. Costs of sterilisation of a female cat is 90 euro; for a male cat prize is 50 euro.
If anyone would like to make a donation, you can send it to our new bank account number: Name: Mission Stray

If you plan to visit Thassos and need a vet, you can contact the local vet Pistela Konstar in Limenas: (0030)2593 058384

For dogs there's also a shelter more inland: FOS Thassos. They work together with the same vet mentioned above.
Medication i brought to Greece was handed over to this vet for the dogs (and cats) taken care off by FOS Thassos.

We don't often find people flying from Belgium to Sri Lanka to take extra valuable medicins with them, let alone pet food. Yet, it would be sad to get these supplies wasted.
I'll be travelling to Greece next week and will do it in the style i most do and like: with little clothes and extras for myself, but with lots of stuff for cats and dogs ... to be continued 😉

Our may spay/neuter program with Dr Nayomi included 9 dog spays, 6 cat spays and 5 ARV's.
Our total bill is 121000 rs (372 euro)

We thank Dr Nayomi for doing a great job for these pets and strays so far. We'll have to miss her for a while, because this lovely vet will soon deliver her baby. We wish the best luck for her and her husband and hope they can both hold a healthy baby in their arms soon.

Dr Ishara, the clinics' new vet, will be available during Dr Nayomi's absence. We will get in contact with her once we have enough donations to carry on our important work.

The last few weeks we've been helping a lady, named Amina.
I met her in Kenia/Africa last year and although she has little resources herself, she takes care of 10 stray cats.

One of this cats is Snow who's mom got killed in an accident. Snow was a tiny little kitten who we didn't know whether she would survive or not. She was quite skinny, lethargic and first didn't really want to eat. I bought some wet and dry kitten food and slowly she started to gain some appetite. Within a few days she became a playful kitten and grew into a beautiful healthy young cat.

While being back home, i stayed in contact with Amina. I knew soon a few of these stray cats would get pregnant and I decided to help Amina to get at least the female cats sterilised. Sadly Snow was already pregnant, but thankfully got sterilised anyway. Snow recovered well and is also vaccinated against rabies in the meantime.

The costs of Snows' sterilisation were 7000 Kes (Kenian Shilling) (=65 euro) and paid by myself, not Mission Stray Sri Lanka. But if people want to help me with a few of Amina's other cats, can make a donation on a seperate bank account:

DORA FOR ADOPTION!

Our kind animal lover, Diana, is trying to find a home for a pup she named Dora.
Dora was dumped at Diana's gate together with her two siblings. Unfortunatly these siblings are still fighting for their life at the vet as they have parvo. Dora was lucky not to have contracted this nasty virus and even got her first vaccination against parvo (see picture of vaccination book).
Diana is now looking for a nice home for Dora and is willing to pay the costs of the other vaccinations and sterilisation once this pup is old enough. The pup is in Colombo area, but can get transferred elsewhere in exchange for a home that doesn't cage or chain a dog, but knows how to care and love man's best friend.

Anyone who would love to this lovely white puppy, please contact Diana: 0760968008

Our charity supported 6 dog spays and 6 cat spays in march + 1 TVT treatment.
All dogs and cats were nicely made sterile by Dr Nayomi of Healthy Pets Animal Clinic (Madiha and Dickwella/Matara area). Our total bill this month was 93.800rs (290 euro).
Please help us to continue this important work. Despite the fact there are 2 other good organisations in this same area doing so many spay/neuter programs, still so many pups get dumped. It's crazy and it sometimes feels like mopping with an open tap, but if we don't continue our work many more dogs and cats will suffer and that is definitly NOT what we want.

A total of 5 female dogs and 14 cats got spayed in februari. This under the careful care of Dr Nayomi of Healthy pets animal clinic. One stray dog with a maggot infested TVT was brought to the clinic by two local girls who want to help this dog: we covered the costs for this dogs' treatment. Another dog with mange was brought in as well: Dr nayomi asked if we were able to pay for a Bravecto tablet, as it's mostly the best way to treat mange and it prevents dogs from getting fleas, ticks, mange for a few months. Bravecto is very effective, sadly way too expensive for most local people, so we just backed up for this one.
Our total bill was 148100 Lkr (443 euro)

A kind lady could use a little help with getting some dogs and cats spayed and neutered in the area of Mattaluliya, colombo.
We both got in contact with .lk to get all things sorted. Best care drove to this place where they caught 5 dogs (3 females and 2 males) and 3 cats (2 males and 1 female) yesterday. After these sweet dogs and cats got their surgery they were dropped off in the same enviroment they live in and roam around. Our charity Mission Stray Sri Lanka paid all bills. There's another dog pending, but he had severe skin infection that first need to be taken care of.

There are also some kittens around that we would like to help to rehome and spay/neutered when old enough ... will be continued, so please stay tuned :)

With a little delay we're happy to say our sterilisation program with Dr Nayomi from went super OK!
11 dogs and 6 cats got spayed in januari and we will continue to follow this path as preventing dogs and cats from getting pregnant is the key to a happier and healthier life for these animals. We also give anti-rabies vaccination (ARV) for dogs and cats when needed.
Our charity will continue to raise money to provide free spay/neutering/ARV for low income pet owners.

If you want to help us to help them, you can make a donation to our Belgian/European bank account:

Please help this amazing organisation to find lovely homes for this rescues.

Blossom | Hanh | Sherlock | Lucy | Gladys | Raina | Oakley | Mocha | Cece
These are names of rescues, who have varied histories and personalities. They are large, small, furry, angry, happy, old and young. The one thing they have in common is that they have survived so much more than any of us could have.
And they are all still waiting for homes. Some for years - some just for a month.
We are reaching out to you our community for help. We will be putting out their stories and details one by one in the next few days. Please like, share and talk to others people about them.
Please help us get them to the loving, caring homes they deserve. Please. They really deserve it.
