Vacancy: Artistic Director MORPHO 🦋

Grateful for five years of intensive collaboration, MORPHO and artistic director Caroline Dumalin will part ways this summer. With the start of a new policy period, MORPHO is entering a new chapter.

We are looking for an artistic director who will (preferably from 1 July onwards) work together with the general director to develop the new 2028–2032 policy plan, as well as MORPHO’s artistic, strategic, and operational direction.

The artistic director combines vision with decisiveness and brings together policy, partnerships, and the day-to-day functioning of MORPHO into an inspiring whole.

STUDIO VIEWING DAYS AMERIKALEI 👀

MORPHO has various workspaces available in this architectural gem at Amerikalei! In this studio building there is a mix of artists and creative entrepreneurs working together and sharing ideas. The big windows give a lot of natural light and there is a shared kitchen and rooftop terrace as meeting place. Take a look at the photos for a glimpse of this wonderful building.

MEET THE RESIDENTS

𝗦𝗶𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 (1992, Netherlands) is an artist who lives and works in Antwerp. Her work stems from an interest in transformations between creation and decay, and in life forms that are dormant and hidden. She explores what it means to be human in relation to other living beings, and how other species such as fungi, worms, trees, snails, octopuses and moths can serve as examples for coexisting with different species.

At MORPHO, Sien will develop a short film in which a world is shown where the boundaries between living and non-living, organic and technological are blurred. Building on a family of sculptures created from the remnants of our current lives clumped together, she will explore how these sculptures can be brought to life through film, sound, encounters and performance.

MEET THE RESIDENTS

𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿 (1977, Germany) is a Frankfurt-based artist working in the field of expanded photography. Her practice investigates the gap between complex human perception and the image-making of technical apparatuses. Using photography as both theme and material, she employs manual, process-based interventions like folding, layering and shifting, to test how image space and real space overlap and how these tensions shape perception. Her works often move between two- and three-dimensionality, creating states of instability that challenge conventional seeing.

During her time at MORPHO, Christiane will further explore negative color space, bringing painting, photography, and objecthood into dialogue through the detour of inversion. Building on earlier black-and-white experiments, she now examines how painterly gestures and photographic processes intersect to generate spatial presence and object-like form. Inversion becomes a tool for opening images to ambiguity and transformation, and for questioning how perception is shaped when material surface and technical apparatus meet.

MEET THE RESIDENTS

𝗡𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗵 (1984, Germany) is a cartoonist based in Düsseldorf. Known for blending humor, melancholy, and keen observation, Nadine’s work features crying apples, talking stones, and wryly human characters that embody her unmistakable voice.

At MORPHO, Nadine will be working on illustrations that ask: “Do you know that feeling?”, inviting visitors to enter into a quiet, humorous dialogue with the emotions that shape our everyday existence. These works will be presented at in on 21, 22 and 23 November 2025.

𝑴𝒖𝒍𝒖𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒂 𝑻𝒂𝒇𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒆 () is a painter who works at MORPHO Klappei, in a calm street on the edge of De Seefhoek. He is also part of MORPHO's general assembly.

Mulugeta keenly observes and participates in the globally dynamic art scene and highlights on African art. A selection of his paintings are on view at as part of the group show AGAINST THE POWERLESSNESS OF ART, presenting a selection from the archive of Ruimte Morguen.

𝑾𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝑯𝒆𝒊𝒓𝒘𝒆𝒈𝒉 () is a graphic designer. At his publishing house , he creates publications at a slow pace. His studio at MORPHO Raat is located in a former gym in the centre of Antwerp.

A IS FOR "ARROW" consists of the first flag of a series, presented at until 12 December. Just like Deleuze's 'Abécédaire', Ward starts at the beginning, with the letter “A”. An amalgam of arrows→directions→references immediately guides the viewer away again.

In a discursive and performative roleplaying session, we become 𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘂𝘁𝘀, exploring transitions through the lens of changing voices.

What does it mean to have a passing voice? What qualities make a voice sound more masculine, more feminine, or somewhere in between? How do social expectations shape the way we hear ourselves and our own sound?

Inspired by the idea of 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝘀 𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗼𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘀𝘁, voices come from unexpected places. We try on imagined tones and gestures. With microphones, props, and small recording tools, we locate our voices elsewhere: in the body, in space, in each other.
