On Wednesday afternoon, October 29, 2025, Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq provided this information.
He said that, according to intelligence sources, a large number of people, including women and children, were staying on a wooden boat (sampan) near Abdul Ali’s Ghat in the Jumma Para area of Baharchhara, Teknaf, with the intention of being trafficked to Malaysia by sea. Based on the received information, a special operation was conducted by the Baharchhara Coast Guard Outpost in that area on the evening of Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at around 7:00 PM. During the operation, the Coast Guard team rescued 26 Rohingyas from the boat who were being trafficked to Malaysia.
Upon interrogation, it was revealed that several organized trafficking groups were planning to smuggle Bangladeshi and Rohingya nationals to Malaysia by sea, luring them with promises of a better life abroad, high-paying jobs, and low-cost travel.
During the operation, the traffickers fled upon sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, so no arrests could be made. The Coast Guard’s intelligence surveillance and operations are ongoing to capture those involved.
He further stated that the Bangladesh Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future to prevent human trafficking.
