FIVDB organized a Project Inception Meeting on 12 May 2026 (Tuesday) at the CODEC Community Centre (CC), Camp-25, Nhila Union, Teknaf, under FIVDB’s Humanitarian Response Programme for the project titled “SIGA: Building Peaceful Coexistence Between Rohingya Refugees and Host Communities through Gender-Responsive Development Initiatives for CSOs in Cox’s Bazar.”

The Honorable Camp-in-Charge (CiC) of Camp-25, Khanjada Shariar Bin Mannan attended the meeting. Md. Safiqul Islam, Project Coordinator of the SIGA Project, delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining the project’s goals, objectives, and key activities.

The primary objective of the meeting was to inform stakeholders about the project’s goals, expected output, and planned activities. Participants provided valuable feedback and recommendations to support the smooth and effective implementation of the project in Camp-25.

The meeting was attended by focal persons from various national and international NGOs and CSOs, along with Head Majhis, Imams, youth representatives, and female community members. The event provided an important platform for introducing the project and strengthening coordination, engagement, and communication among all stakeholders.

There were some outcomes and recommendations identified by the stakeholders, including:

👉Expand the scope of vocational training trades by incorporating additional skill development options beyond those currently specified, such as masonry, to better address diverse livelihood opportunities and market demands.

👉Integrate additional groups into the existing CBO groups within the project framework.

👉Both freshers and trained individuals will have opportunities to engage in and benefit from livelihood activities.

👉Need to establish effective linkages between FIVDB’s protection initiatives and other relevant protection groups, ensuring that legal aid actors can coordinate efficiently and maintain alignment with the FIVDB Mediator Forum.

For people in Ajmiriganj and Nabiganj of Habiganj, floods once meant silent fear, days spent in uncertainty, not knowing when homes or crops would be washed away.

But this time, the story has changed. They are no longer just waiting, they are preparing in advance. Under the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP)’s Anticipatory Action initiative, early cash assistance began on 29 April 2026, before the anticipated floods. This timely intervention was based on reliable weather forecasts to help vulnerable families prepare ahead of time.

Through field-level assessment and verification, a total of 11855 households in Ajmiriganj and Nabiganj upazilas of Habiganj were selected. Each household received BDT 5,000 in cash assistance to support home repairs, food storage, and other essential preparations.

The programme is led by the World Food Programme (WFP), with field-level implementation support from Friends In Village Development Bangladesh - FIVDB.
