Background and Mission
Help in Need Sylhet (HNS) was born out of the Covid19 crisis. In the UK a group of people got together to see what we could do for Bangladesh during the lockdown. Someone in the group said, “hunger will kill people in Bangladesh before the virus kills them.” This is why we began with distributing food parcels. Our aim is to deliver the food parcels discreetly to families of low income and to families who cannot beg but suffer silently. We wanted to maintain families self-respect and dignity at times of hardship. This small endeavour led us to think a little bigger and see what more we could do during Ramadan. This is how Help in Need came together with a vision to help people during the crisis of any emergency and support people with reaching their potential in developing skills through education and training.
Our Mission Help in Need Sylhet (HNS) is not for profit organisation. We aim to respond to the crisis of emergencies in Sylhet and empower people to reach their potential through education and training. We believe in offering support to families and individuals discreetly while maintaining their self-respect and dignity at all times. We seek to empower marginalised communities in particular with a focus on women, orphans and disabled people. Our overarching aim is to alleviate hardship during a crisis of emergency and support the aspirations of the most disadvantaged members of Sylhet. Our success and achievement will depend on our ability to provide: - families during a crisis of emergency with humanitarian aid.
- Education and training geared towards empowering people with a focus on women, orphans and disabled people.
- individuals to go into further education with the aim of reaching their full potential in developing their skills to enable them to play a full role in the economy.
