Chhatrashibir Expresses Deep Concern and Strongly Condemns Ongoing Persecution of Muslims in India
Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir has expressed deep concern, outrage, and strong condemnation over the recent brutal attacks on Muslims in India. In a statement issued on Wednesday (March 19), Central President Jahidul Islam and Secretary General Nurul Islam Saddam strongly denounced these incidents.
The leaders stated, "The persecution of Muslims in India has reached an alarming level, which is a matter of deep concern for us. Recently, an imam has been sued over the use of loudspeakers for the call to prayer, Muslims have been obstructed from offering prayers under the pretext of Holi and worshippers have been directly attacked while praying."
According to international media reports, a group of extremist Hindutva supporters gathered in front of a mosque and assaulted worshippers as they exited after prayers, chanting "Jai Shri Ram." The attackers carried liquor bottles, which they used to harass the worshippers. Additionally, there have been incidents where fasting Muslims were forcibly smeared with Holi colors, beaten for protesting, and even women and children were subjected to violence.
Moreover, on Monday (March 18) afternoon, the Hindutva organization Bajrang Dal launched a large-scale attack on Muslims in the Mahal area of Nagpur, demanding the removal of the tomb of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, a symbol of Muslim heritage. These communal attacks are clear evidence of the growing insecurity faced by religious minorities in India.
The leaders further stated, “India, which constantly lectures others about minority rights, has itself become a horrifying place of persecution for its own minorities. The relentless oppression of Muslims in India has reached alarming levels—44 Muslims were lynched between 2015 and 2018 over allegations of consuming beef, Muslim homes were burned down during the Delhi riots in 2020, hijab was banned in Karnataka in 2022, and in 2023, hundreds of Muslim homes were bulldozed. This continuous persecution has put the very existence of India’s minority Muslim community at grave risk.”
The leaders stated, “No religion ever supports violence. However, the Hindutva organization RSS and its political wing BJP are engaged in a conspiracy of communal riots and Muslim extermination in pursuit of their dream of establishing ‘Akhand Bharat’ and ‘Ram Rajya.’ The recent attacks are part of this deep-rooted conspiracy, aimed at transforming India into an extremist communal state.”
“This persecution is not just a problem for Indian Muslims; it is a matter of grave concern for all peace-loving and justice-seeking people across the world. We urge the Indian government to ensure religious freedom for Muslims and immediately put an end to all forms of oppression against minorities.”
