ডাহুক considers tourism a powerful pathway for livelihood enhancement. Our first intervention in the Haor region was rooted in a vision of climate-resilient tourism, creating a meaningful step forward in connecting local culture, ecology, and income generation.

we are glad to be part of an important policy formation on 'responsible and sustainable tourism' in Bangladesh- bringing together government, industry, and academia to shape a more inclusive and forward-looking framework.

Encouraged by this progress, we believe the journey ahead will continue with needed empathy, inclusion, and thoughtful guidance.

Daahuk has been one of the pioneers in establishing community-based tourism in the Tanguar Haor region, actively engaging rural inhabitants and boatmen from the Ratansree village. Rather than owning or developing boats itself, Daahuk embraced an asset-remodeling approach- strengthening local skills and optimizing existing community resources to build a sustainable livelihood ecosystem where one group complements another.

Over time, the initiative expanded significantly, leading to the formation of numbers of trade-based communities that are now operating successfully. Today, Daahuk stands as a collective voice, representing many stakeholders across the horizon.

The early journey and foundational efforts have been documented in a video, capturing the spirit and struggles of those formative days. Deep gratitude goes to everyone who contributed to making this vision a reality.

The project received remarkable recognition from Project Management Institute South Asia, earning the 'PMI South Asia Award' in the contribution to the community category in 2023.

NCC Bank and Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen climate resilience and improve sustainable livelihoods in the char areas of Fulchhari Upazila under Gaibandha district. As part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives, NCC Bank will finance a two-year project titled “The Adaptive Eco Char Project: A Blueprint for Thriving Dynamic Landscapes”, which will be implemented in the char areas of Fazlupur and Fulchhari unions. Cultivera Limited will serve as the strategic partner of the project, while Dahuk will act as the research and evaluation partner.

The MoU signing ceremony was recently held at the Head Office of NCC Bank. M. Shamsul Arefin, Managing Director of NCC Bank, and M. Abdus Salam, Chief Executive of Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK), signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations. Among others present at the ceremony were NCC Bank’s Additional Managing Director M. Khurshed Alam, Deputy Managing Directors Md. Zakir Anam, Mohammed Mizanur Rahman & Md. Habibur Rahman; EVP & Head of Sustainable and Women’s Banking Nighat Mumtaz; SVP & Head of Security & Logistics and Head of NCC Bank Foundation Khandaker Saiful Alam; along with Founder & Managing Director of Cultivera Limited Faruque Ahmed, and Founder and Director of Daahuk Md. Magfi Reza Siddique.

The project aims to strengthen the adaptive capacity of char communities to climate change and ensure sustainable livelihoods. Key initiatives under the project include establishment of solar-powered Digital Resilience Centers for early disaster warning, digital services and training; telemedicine-based healthcare services; installation of safe drinking water systems and solar power panels; promotion of climate-resilient agriculture, homestead vegetable cultivation and livestock rearing; women entrepreneurship development; and enhancement of community-based disaster management capacity. Through this initiative, thousands of families are expected to gain access to safe water, renewable energy and healthcare services, while more than 300 families will have opportunities to engage in income-generating activities. The project is also expected to encourage women-led small enterprises and strengthen local disaster preparedness and response mechanisms.

Managing Director of NCC Bank M. Shamsul Arefin, said, “As part of its corporate social responsibility, NCC Bank has long been investing not only in financial development but also in improving the quality of life of marginalized communities by supporting basic needs such as education, healthcare, and medical services. Continuing this commitment, the Bank has now extended support for the sustainable development of people living in char areas. “The people of char regions live in extremely vulnerable conditions and face the adverse impacts of climate change every year. In these areas, internet connectivity, storage facilities, opportunities for modern agricultural practices, healthcare services, and climate information are not luxuries but essential needs. This project will integrate these services into a practical model that will help families protect their lives and livelihoods, access proper guidance, and achieve sustainable economic development. I believe this initiative will play a significant role in improving the living standards of people in the char areas of Fulchhari Upazila in Gaibandha.”

Chief Executive of GUK M. Abdus Salam stated, “This partnership with NCC Bank will serve as an effective model for climate resilience and sustainable economic development in Bangladesh’s char regions. We believe this integrated resilience model will contribute to long-term stability for marginalized communities through practical interventions in education, healthcare, environmental sustainability, and disaster preparedness.”

চুক্তির আওতায় এনসিসি ব্যাংক ‘দ্যা অ্যাডাপটিভ ইকো চর প্রজেক্ট: এ ব্লুপ্রিন্ট ফর থ্রাইভিং ডাইনামিক ল্যান্ডস্কেপস’ শীর্ষক প্রকল্পে অর্থায়ন করবে। প্রকল্পটি আগামী দুই বছর মেয়াদে গাইবান্ধা জেলার ফুলছড়ি উপজেলার ফজলুপুর ও ফুলছড়ি ইউনিয়নের দুর্গম চরাঞ্চলে বাস্তবায়ন করা হবে।

We would encourage pure spirit, enthusiasm, and skills in photography, videography, scriptwriting, and storytelling to document unseen stories and change from different corners of Bangladesh, particularly rural areas.

ঝড়-বাদল উপেক্ষা করে দারুণ উৎসবমুখর পরিবেশে আজ আমাদের তিস্তা তীরবর্তী সর্বদক্ষিণের সমবায় প্রতিষ্ঠান- “তিস্তা সমন্বিত কৃষি সমবায় সমিতি”-র নতুন অফিসের উদ্বোধন সম্পন্ন হলো।

এ সমিতির অধিকাংশ সদস্যের নিজস্ব কোনো চাষের জমি নেই; তারা ভাড়া নেওয়া জমিতে চাষাবাদ করেন। সেই বাস্তবতায় দাঁড়িয়ে সম্পূর্ণ নিজেদের শ্রম, ঐক্য ও সম্মিলিত অর্থায়নের মাধ্যমে একটি মূলধন গড়ে তোলা এবং সেটা থেকে নিজেদের একটা অফিস- নিঃসন্দেহে অনন্য এক অনুপ্রেরণার নজির।

বাংলাদেশের প্রথাগত 'উন্নয়ন পৃষ্ঠপোষকতা'(এনজিও) ও সরকারি কাঠামোর বাইরেও, মানুষের সম্মিলিত অন্তর্নিহিত ঐক্য যে ধীরে ধীরে শক্তিশালী সামাজিক ও আর্থিক প্রতিষ্ঠানে রূপ নিতে পারে- তার একটি উজ্জ্বল উদাহরণ সৃষ্টি হল।

তাদের অফিসটি খুব সুন্দর একটি জায়গায় হয়েছে- জানালা খুললেই তিস্তার চির অস্থির স্রোত দেখা যায়। এ স্রোতের গতিময়তা তাদের জীবনেও আসুক, তাবৎ বাধাবিপত্তি পরাভূত হোক। শুভ কামনা এবং আন্তরিক অভিবাদন জানাই।

Two years ago, we had initiated a few 'school shuttle boats' for the children of the char Gobordhan in the southern Teesta basin. It’s inspiring to see it is running well and supporting a very important day to day connectivity.

তিস্তা তীরবর্তী আমাদের সর্বদক্ষিণের সমবায় প্রতিষ্ঠান- 'তিস্তা সমন্বিত কৃষি কল্যাণ সমিতি' আগামীকাল একটি 'কৃষক সমাবেশ' অনুষ্ঠান আয়োজন করেছে। তাদের নতুন 'অফিস ঘর' উঠেছে, সেই উপলক্ষে তাদের এই কৃষক সমাবেশ আয়োজন- যার বিশেষ কিছু অভিনবত্ব; প্রশংসার যোগ্য।

সরকারি বিভিন্ন অফিসে সেবা বিষয়ক কিছু অপ্রাপ্তির কথা মাঝে মাঝে শোনা যায়। তো এই ধরনের প্রোগ্রামগুলোতে যখন সরকারি কর্মকর্তাগণ মাটির কাছাকাছি আসেন, তখন সমস্যা এবং সমস্যার সমাধান নিয়ে খোলাখুলি আলাপ হয়। বিশ্বাস করি, এ ধরনের আয়োজন ভবিষ্যতে কৃষকদের জীবনকে আরও সহজ করবে।

মজার বিষয় এই যে- এ অনুষ্ঠানে কোনো বিশেষ অতিথি নেই। আমন্ত্রিত সম্মানিত অতিথিগণ- সবাই প্রধান অতিথি। "তিস্তা সমন্বিত কৃষি কল্যাণ সমিতি”কে অভিনন্দন। আপনারা উত্তরোত্তর এগিয়ে যান।

Research and community organization ডাহুক has been working with various cooperative bodies, social organizations, government entities, and universities as an external advisory partner. Today, this network expands further with the inclusion of one of the country’s growing fourth-generation financial institutions, NCC Bank PLC.

Daahuk has partnered with NCC Bank PLC as their sustainability advisory entity to provide evaluation and monitoring services for the CSR projects under a long-term contract. The first assignment will begin with “The Adaptive Eco-Char Model” project, which will be implemented by Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK), Gaibandha.

This is a needful opportunity for Daahuk- for the marginalized communities it works with- and a step toward ensuring that necessary resources are utilized for the right causes with the right intentions.

সাম্প্রতিক চলমান ভারী বৃষ্টিপাত ও অতিবর্ষণের ফলে দেশের বিস্তৃত হাওর অঞ্চল এক ধরনের ফসলহানির ঝুঁকিতে রয়েছে। এ পরিস্থিতিতে কৃষকদের মধ্যে বাড়ছে উদ্বেগ এবং সামগ্রিক খাদ্যনিরাপত্তা নিয়ে শঙ্কা তৈরি হয়েছে।
