Young innovators from the Haor region came together to showcase bold and practical ideas for climate resilience at the final round of the Haor Hackathon: Innovations in Climate Action, held on 11 March 2026 at the Grand Sylhet Hotel and Resort, Sylhet. 🌿💡
Organised by the Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research (C3ER), BRAC University, in collaboration with Ashar Alo, GREEN PATH, YOUCAN, Sunshine Foundation, Eco-Network Global and Brighters, the hackathon was implemented under the Nature Based Adaptation towards Prosperous and Adept Lives & Livelihoods in Bangladesh (NABAPALLAB) project, funded by the UK Government and implemented by a consortium led by CARE Bangladesh.
Youth from Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, and Sunamganj presented innovative solutions addressing flooding, erratic rainfall, waterlogging, and livelihood challenges in the Haor ecosystem. From 30 shortlisted ideas, 12 teams advanced to the final round and pitched their solutions before an expert panel of judges.
The event was graced by Dr. Ainun Nishat, Professor Emeritus and Advisor, C3ER, BRAC University, as the Chief Guest. The programme also featured distinguished guests including Ms. Roufa Khanum, Deputy Director, C3ER, BRAC University; Mr. Mrityunjoy Das, Deputy Chief of Party, NABAPALLAB and Deputy Director, Humanitarian and Resilient Futures Program at CARE Bangladesh; and Mr. Istiak Ibne Rouf, Senior Research Associate, C3ER, BRAC University. The event was moderated by Ms. Sharmin Nahar Nipa, Assistant Director, C3ER, BRAC University.
