Sirajgonj Uttaran Mohila Sangstha (SUMS) is a non-profit, non-political local level voluntary organization renamed of Mother’s Club. It was established in 28th March 1980 by a group of development women workers and social workers with a common premise of understanding. The initiator felts that the women classes are neglected in all sphere of life i.e.; economical, political, Social, cultural, educ
ational, religious etc. So the initiators dedicated to form an embryo of organization-“The Mothers club”, headed by renowned social worker Mrs. All the members of the Club are women and as a non-government women organization beginning the activities within the Sirajgonj Municipality Area. The organization surveys the area and cooperates with GOB development program. The women workers are discussed about the problem of the poor women of the mohalla/Slums area of the Municipality. The organization detects the priority of population problem and started the Family Planning service Project in August 1980 under the auspices of FPSTC and local Family Planning Dept. From the very beginning Family planning activities was so tough. Field workers are sometimes barrier by the conservative family heads, but the organizations very patiently deals the problem and solve through the community meetings and mutual discussion. For this reason the organization achieve the love and faith within the locality. In this time organization decided to setup a static clinic to provide immunization for the pregnant mothers and under-1 children, post natal care. Family planning Counseling, Local Health Dept, and Family Planning Dept. are assist the activities through available supply of vaccines and contraceptive methods. In 1985 Mothers club worked as a “Uttaran Mohila Sangstha” and registered with the Women Affairs Bureau. In 1990 the organization secured the President Awards for the successful implementation of Family Planning services in Rajshahi Division. These awards really helpful for the development of the organization. In this year as a renowned organization of the Sirajgonj Uttaran Mohila Sangstha .In 1994 Uttaran Mohila Sangstha registered with NGO Affairs Bureau as a Sirajgonj Uttaran Mohila Sangstha (SUMS). In 1994 with the assistance of BPHC- NGO Project office SUMS extended its Maternal and Child Health Care project in Bagbati and Ratankandi Unions the disaster prone and backward area of Sadar thana under Sirajgonj district. This activities includes - Health Education, Primary Health Care, General treatment, Provide Family Planning, counseling and methods, Nutrition, Regular growth monitoring of under-5 children, VAC distribution, ORS distribution, Safe delivery by trained TBA’s, provide Ante natal and post-natal care. Referred risk mother and sterilization, acceptors to the govt. clinic or Hospital, mobilize the under-1 children to involving in immunization center of Govt. Health dept, Satellite Clinic service through Paramedic, Counselor, FHV, Supervisor in the field level and Static Clinic of project unit office.
