EXECUTIVE SUMMERY:
Introduction: Bangladesh is one of the highly dense populated country of the world. Most of the population of the country live in the village. However, in the recent time, urbanization has taken place in this country significantly coupled with quick industrialization. As a result, population in urban and sub-urban areas is increasing very fast. This huge population in the urban
areas produce mammoth amount of solid waste at household level through their regular daily cooking activities. But there are no such facilities in all urban areas to manage these huge amount of solid waste resulting environmental population, transmission of various diseases and bad odors, polluting surface and ground water and ultimately hampering normal life of the dwellers although municipality is responsible to manage these solid waste. It is revealed by different studies that municipality is capable to manage only 37% of the generated solid waste in urban areas within their capacity. As a result, there is a need to work towards a sustainable waste management system, which requires environmental, institutional, financial, economic and social sustainability. Considering the above need, Country Environmental Development Association (CEDA) started its journey in 2004 with an objective to ensure pollution free environment in different rapidly growing unions under Savar Upozilla of Dhaka district through creating awareness among people and set up community based west recycling plant using kitchen waste in the proposed intervention areas. The idea has to separate organic matter from non-organic waste and to treat it separately in small, decentralized, high-mechanized waste recycling plants. A profit could then be made on the organic and nonorganic portion of the waste. The organization is engaged in waste management, Petrol, Diesel, Bioethanol, Activated Carbon, Dry Ice, Hydrochloric Acid, Compost and Biogas Plants for Pollution Free Environment Development also environment protection related products. The maid objective of the project is to earning profit but is considered as cost sharing based fund rising project of CEDA. But with the passes of time, population of these areas has increased significantly due to the new establishment of different industries and consequently demand for solid waste management has also increased that goes behind the management capacity and strength of CEDA. As a result, the proposed proposal titled Integrated Waste Management through Petrol, Diesel, Bioethanol, Activated Carbon, Dry Ice, Hydrochloric Acid, Compost and Biogas Plants for Pollution Free Environment Development is developed and submitted with an objective to seek administrative and logistical support so that CEDA may ensure clean environment by managing household generated solid waste through the said plants, and generate revenue for the development of the community.
